It's true....720 fines ARE excessive
So say the tax office - why? They say they do not differentiate between those with modest savings and big time tax evaders.
Nice of them to Admit it, but what are they going to do about it?

It's only an article in a newspaper, albeit a well researched one from a reputable source, and it's mostly common sense, and there is a groundswell of opinion that the Spanish tax authorities panic measures following the Luis Barcenas scandal led to this unjustifiable mess concerning foreign asset declarations.
The truth of it is simply that nobody knows where this is going, the Spanish authorities are stubborn people, expats are panicking and leaving in droves, and false advice is coming in from all corners trying to steal even more money from normally honest expats struggling to understand alien ways in a foreign country.
