It's Raining at last!

Just been out doing a dance around the terrace as it is finally raining. I can hear my plants sucking it in. looks to be set in for the day too.

I never thought I'd be so happy to see rain this time last year

not here it isn't - but we do have some forecast

apparently there's a cold front sitting in the Gulf of Cádiz - which by Friday might just collide with another coming from the north, right on my doorstep

that collision will maybe then crash into the warm moisture from the Med............ perfect conditions for a Gota Fría

I hope it just rains..........

The Gota Fria has already hit,.........England.
Very similar conditions and result with two weather fronts meeting.
Both main road and rail link to Scotland cut off for a while yesterday.
Lots of folk evacuated and floods all over the place.
Worst for three decades according to the news.
Couldn't even get to my local market town yesterday just a couple of miles away.

As Dick mentions, it's been one of the worst summers as regards rain in the UK for a long time. Maybe now the rain will head south to Spain and we can have an Indian summer in Blighty.:fingerscrossed:

Yes, looking grim, I feel for those affected. We´re lucky where we are, we´ve been in this house over 30 years and never been flooded, we´ve had rain but certainly not in the biblical proportions that some seem to have had. I've only driven locally the last few days and certainly no roads closed here. I wonder how some people in vulnerable areas manage with insurance, do they become uninsurable at some point?

Well the Citizens of Spain have already been p!ssed upon from a great height for quite a few years now, so maybe the good Lord above believes they need a break from it.

They wanted independence, now they know what it will be like.

However, many people in Scotland and Northern England are complaining that flood measures promised 4-5 years ago still havent even started.

Can see many insurance claims being rejected with the red pen.

The heaviest rain is forecast on Friday coming up from the south west, crossing the south and then moving up to the east coast.

We've had showers on and off today since about 9.00 am but no heavy rain - YET!

Thunderstorms are forecast so I shall be cowering behind the sofa as per usual, as I am scared stiff of them. What a wuss.

I'm west of you, and just come back from a walk, ducking and diving missing the showers, now the sun has come out! But not for long, I suspect. As you said, compared with some we have been very lucky.

Well here on the west coast of Scotland we have had wall to wall sunshine all day, with temperatures peaking at 17oC. Whilst it has been bucketing down in (most of ) the rest of the UK. I would still prefer Andalucia though, rain or no rain.

After waiting for it for four months, four month's worth fell from the sky in an hour. I was caught in it with my little dog and had to carry him home, up to my knees in water.

I can't complain about the drains, no drains in the world could cope with that lot. Unfortunately I had just bought an expensive computer magazine with an attached DVD, which I've since thrown in the bin.

stopped raining here at about 1.30 - just as I was putting my coat on to go to the bar in the next street.

had rain most of the night, most of the morning, today is market day and a third didnt turn up who must have been the ones with accurate weather forecast as at 1100 it washed out the whole lot, never seen them move to go home so quick.

the cloud is below the mountain behind us, almost down to village roof level and Ryanscair havent been using the village as a target for leaving Malaga.

Could this be the approach of the much dreaded or this year maybe much welcome Gota Fria ?
Though it does seem a tad early if it is.

We are in the middle of a downpour, the roads are flooding - but then when I looked yesterday none of the surface water drains have been cleaned out for decades - where there are any.

We had a sunrise today but all that happened is the gloom got slightly brighter, no visible sun, just a grey mass of cloud above us. Automatic street lights are still on. The cloud base is so low that it is hiding some of the upper village roofs.

Just remind me again why I came to Spain..................

But I hope it is doing all the olive trees some good.:fingerscrossed:

BBC Radio was saying yesterday that the Jetstream was moving south and bringing the awful weather from the north of the UK to the south, as that is what plays a part in the gota fria it is highly likely.

You can't have an action without a reaction on this planet.

The bad news for the UK at least,is that the Jetstream is expected to be mostly located in a more Southerly position for many years to come, meaning more disastrous Summers like the present one.

For many of us who can't tolerate the excessive Spanish Summer heat, it's going to be a choice between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea.

I'm feeling a bit groggy this morning as we were up at 3.30 am taking down the gazebo on our roof terrace, after being woken by the horrendous noise it was making flapping about in the high winds! Just in time before the thunderstorm and torrential rain arrived. The rain had slackened off a bit by the time we woke up again but looks like it's set in for the day, so the San Miguel Feria will be a non-event. Shame, and will also have bad economic consequence for a lot of traders which is the last thing they need at the moment. Somebody up there doesn't like us.

I've just seen in Diario Sur that a woman has died in flash floods near Alora, and there is serious flooding in a number of other areas too. It looks really bad, hope everyone is safe and property doesn't suffer too much damage.

I got soaked on Wednesday, sunbathed yesterday, got soaked again today, and am sitting about in winter gear this evening.

The storm has knocked out our pirate TV, so the Spanish music is playing instead, nice and loud. Noches de Ronda, even the dogs are dancing.

Minute long Tornado in Gandia last night.
Wind, rain, trees uprooted, ferris wheel and coaster at the fair collapsed, fair tents and stalls destroyed - 50 injured and 15 seriously.

http://www.lasprovincias.es/20120928...209282107.html

UPDATE: reports suggest the fair was already close due to the storm, otherwise the injuries would be worse, most of the injured were in the main paseo due to failling trees branches and tents.
