Within 20yrs the majority mother tongue in good old US of A will be Spanish I bet it already is in Florida and S Cal. Also huge no's of people speak Portuguese in Brazil but my money is on Chinese which one I don't know.

We showed our prospective expat around Orihuela Costa today, an area where the expat population is so integrated that they have even elected an expat to serve on the local council. They have their own town hall, health centre and police station.

A new expat to the area will find it tailor-made for him, he won't have to live in some godforsaken finca, or a Spanish town where the locals regard him like an animal in a zoo. Learning Spanish couldn't be easier, there are language schools on every corner.

There's a well maintained coastal path stretching from La Zenia to Punta Prima, and it affords an excellent view of all those million pound homes spread along the coast. It gets a bit cheaper a few streets away from the sea where the Spanish developers have provided thousands of 'quad' houses, designed for UK expats and full of thousands of them, grateful for their opportunity to live cheaply in the sun.

It's bound to happen. My old school in England now has Mandarin as well as French, Spanish and Latin as a core language for 13 to 18-year-old pupils.

Since she was already working in her own family's shop, I rather doubt that.

The Spanish 1 euro shops,(I believe it used to be 150pts),have been completely wiped off the map by the Chinese around here.
Also since they've got a grip on the market their prices seem to have gone up quite a lot.
As I said they are slowly,or maybe not so slowly now, taking over by stealth plus ever increasing wealth.

Perhaps she was learning because of the amount of imports from China and did not want her family to mistakenly order the wrong things or in order to translate instructions. Would be very interesting to know her reasons. Maybe she has met a wonderful Chinese boy and wants to impress him with her language skills.

From what I have seen wonderful Chinese boys are all to busy working to have time for Girlfriends, socialising, and down time from the job.

The only time you see Chinese on the beach is when they are trying to flog something.

Talking about Chinese DVD sellers, we bought Final Destination 5 from one last week. It was cheap and of amazing quality and we enjoyed watching it. Unfortunately, they hadn't copied the ending of the film.

I'm looking for a small Chinaman with a bike and a rucksack full of pirated DVDs. I saw ten of them yesterday but didn't recognise the one that cheated me out of three Euros.

Too busy working or not, they still find plenty of time for a bit of hows your father.

Shame the image isn't working on this one, it's brill.

Su Wong marries Lee Wong. The next year,
the Wongs have a new baby.
The nurse brings out a lovely, healthy, bouncy,
but definitely a Caucasian, WHITE baby boy.

'Congratulations,' says the nurse to the new parents.
'Well Mr. Wong, what will you and Mrs. Wong name the baby?'

The puzzled father looks at his new baby boy and says,
'Well, two Wong's don't make a white,
so I think we will name him...
