iphone in Spain, What a disaster

I walked into my local Movistar shop the other day and asked if they had the iphone. The girl rolled her eyes as if to say "not another one". I have been told it could take about 3 months to get one. Does anyone know of any Movistar shops around the costa blanca that might have them?

After such a fantastic launch in Madrid it now seems to be a bit of a non event.:curse:

I realise it's no help, but my local phone shop in the UK has a sign saying "out of stock", too. I'm surprised your shop doesn't put one up, too.

Re: iphone in Spain, What a disaster

Put your name down on the waiting list. That's the only way you'll get one... and to be fair the situation in the US / UK / etc is little better.

Stores are receiving 10 units a week. So if you're number 80 on the list, you should have yours by October. Hopefully before then, the manufacturing ramp-up should have kicked in.

BTW - the white ones won't start coming here until September - when there should be a wider launch across more Movistar outlets.

Oops. The staff at the Movistar shop were very helpful. Took down my details including desired tariff and the fact I wanted to port my number. They said they'd ring, but also showed me exactly where I was on the list and told me to expect a long wait.

Absolutely true last year, when it didn't support 3G, push e-mail via Exchange ActiveSync, lacked decent VPN support, centralised deployment and remote-wipe, plus you couldn't write apps for it for love nor money.

Now you should see some of the apps we're developing for it, although the best stuff will have to wait until the push notification service later this year!

I'll stick with Blackberry. If I wanted to hear music through my phone I'd just call Movistar and ask to speak to an operator :p

Hmm, Crackberry. Spend $2,995 on BES just to be able to open an attachment :)

Uhhh.... mine cost €50. Had to sit through an hour long presentation though (actually it ended after 25 mins but the wine and tapas was appreciated!)

Obviously I'm getting confused. I got a Curve 8310. That has the software on it, no?

No, in order to use the 'real' features of the Blackberry, you need to spend a gazillion quid on servers and software just so the phone can touch base with the 'mother ship'. Or a chunk of money per month for a hosted version of the same service.

We're paying for a hosted version then. Have emails set up, browser etc....

I still reckon I'm only using a fraction of its possibilities though

Well, it's a damn good phone, it's got Enterprise features that iPhone is still lacking, and of course businesses have invested heavily in BES and all the associated technologies - so will be reluctant to change.

So far, it's only CEOs and CIOs that have managed to justify an iPhone, but that may change now it's become more 'enterprise friendly'.

So, keeping on topic before JDR throttles me... The obilgatory iPhone data tariff is €15 for 200MB (speed restricted thereafter) or €25 for 1GB (ditto) on Movistar. How does that compare to the Blackberry Internet Service tariffs in Spain?

Truthfully, I don't know. I let the office deal with it so never seen a bill. Funnily enough, I'm using it now to answer u.
I know we have a Tarifa Plana which is a special, all inclusive type rate.
Whilst I can understand why iiPhone can be good for personal use - listening to music, good graphics etc, for business users I don't see it being up to the job. Basically, all I want is an office on the move for which BB serves me perfect

Some of the applications showcased in the WWDC earlier this year were impressive, and developed in almost no time at all. The AppStore will be what turns the market on its head. The bone of contention is whether mainstream business users can cope without a 'hardware' keyboard.

And, I'm afraid I will be in that category. I would see it as a step backwards even though that might be a bit unfair

Just been to yet another Movistar shop and guess what??? She could not help me!!!!!! "We are not getting them in this shop" :curse:

Went to Media Markt and the girl at the Movistar stall was VERY helpfull. Although she could not get me one she said that it is OBLIGATORY that they order you one in the Movistar shops. She said to go to the shop in Cartagena and they will order you one. I am going after work today so fingers crossed.:)

Have you not used the store locator? They don't do them in every store!

http://www.movistar.es/iphone

...that tells you which stores get them and hence where you can order from.

PS - if you find a store with stock... do PM me!! :D Good luck

Just back from Cartagena 3 more movistar shops and 3 more of the rudest assistants i have ever come accross i eventually ended up in El Corte Ingles who could not have been nicer, Took my details and said although there are about 150 names waiting they will call me when one comes available. They are getting them in slowly but surely. to El Corte and a big  to Movistar. Movistar said not before September but El Corte say they will have them long before that. Lets see.

:p:p:p:p:p:p:p

Mrs Posh and I are waiting until September for the white version. The black I-Phone shows every fingerprint on the case.I would have liked to have seen a 5 meg camera on a phone coming from the gizmo kings Apple. Watch out the Movistar assistants don't fob you off with the 8g phone insist on the 16g.Later in the year the tariffs may improve remember you are locked in for 12-18months. Gives them a chance to clear up any bugs the phone may have. You also need to down load i-tunes 7.7 to get the best from the present i-phone.

Ah yes, the trusty Motorola DynaTAC 8000... 2lbs of RF electronics with 8 hours of standby time or 60 minutes of call time. For some reason, it reminds me of that old Audi ad with that pillock of a city type...
