If I bought fan IPad in the UK possibly a refurbished one from Apple or Amazon would there be a problem using it in Spain?

No problem at all, although not sure why you would buy one in the UK, they are no cheaper

Lots of second hand iPads on segundamano.com. Just make sure that they have no iTunes/app store account attached. And if you want the UK version of iTunes/app store then you need to give a credit card with a UK address

That´s not a problem. I have a UK address. Going over for Christmas so can bring one back with me.

It was just my son put doubts in my mind with regard to the Apps.

Should make no difference where you bought it, same as with a computer. I bought my ipad3 las year here in Bilbao. Same price as UK. Works anywhere.
What's different is if you buy a Kindle in UK, though there are ways round that now.

I am considering getting a kindle and wondered if there'd be any significant difference between buying from amazon.co.uk and amazon.es.

I don't live in either of those countries now but theres no amazon where I am.

Any advice welcomed!

I kept waiting for it to change!

Now do I go for an IPAD2 or the new IPAD Air? John Lewis are doing an extra 2yrs guarantee free.

By the way, a 2 year guarentee with John Lewis isnt much good if you are thousands of miles away in Spain. That's why I would buy here from a Spanish retailer

Yes it is if it is registered to my UK address.

I have had a bad experience with Media Markt today so not particularly in favour of Spanish retailers!

Can you tell me why you would go for the IPad Air? Interestingly it says it has "backside illumination" but at my age do I really want my backside illuminated!

Only because it is the latest release, has the retina screen, is much thinner and lighter and has more up-to-date operating system. Probably a bit faster too

But if you want to save a bit of money then get an older version

I wouldnt buy anything from MediaMarkt either, we had a bad experience there, but ElCorteIngles are very trustworthy and god value, and there are Apple Stores all over Spain, although probably not in Chiclana ;)

What do you do if your iPad breaks, post it to JohnLewis? ElCorteIngles would give you a replacement on the spot

Same price as the UK then at 399 GBP

You can buy it where you like, but I dont understand why you would get it from the UK when you have the same product in shops next door to you. It makes no sense

Just to chuck my tuppence in, I bought a offline HTC one from o2, the first one burnt out, to get that replaced in the UK was a nightmare, it was quite stressful, not a nice company, anyway eventually got a new one and the paperwork in my name.

This one has gone wrong now, the Mic / Speaker not working, so only way is for me to ship it back to UK get someone to have it collected as I cant send it to 02 direct, they wont have it. And then faf about getting it back, I could send it to HTC but it will take longer than to o2.

so based on that I think Cricketmans advice is worth noting. Frankly if your not in the UK then they cant be arsed, second to that I used to sell a lot of Iphones and Ipads and Apple if they can get out of doing anything they will.

I repaired a mates Ipad the other day where the wireless was not working cos they bought it from pissyworld they only gave the 1 year warranty, (I told him to enforce his rights but he let them shrug it off) unlike the 2 year from crapple, so if you get 2 years in the Shop here, then unless you plan to go back to the UK id take that.

I know a some electrical items are more expensive here like TV's and I would buy one from UK but not a Ipad if it was the same price with a longer guarantee.

I think for me it is the language problem. After my experience in Mediamarkt yesterday where I had to complain in Spanish which leaves me totally frustrated at trying to get my point across.

Everything else in the past I have bought from here (MediaMarkt) but will not go back there again.

I do go back to the UK three times a year so could take it back. I just don´t know. Also a three year guarantee is not to be sniffed at.

Why not buy it online from the Spanish Apple Store? Also if you have a problem then you can take it back to the Apple Store in Marbella - I know it's a fair way from you but it's closer than the UK and they all speak perfect English.

In my experience very few electrical goods are cheaper in the UK nowadays

I bought a Samsung smartTV from EL Corte Ingles last year, it was 570 euros and came with a 70 euros voucher of the next purchase

The same product was £599 in the UK

My wife bought her kindle in the UK before moving here to retire.
The clever thing about it is that it knows where you bought it from, ie which country. Amazon.uk has lots more choice than the amazon.es & even amazon.com.
We did manage once to download something from amazon.es, but I cannot exactly remember how. You used to be able to download only from the country of kindle purchase, but I think it's changed now, but am not so techno-savvy to tell you how.

It is no longer a problem.

If you buy in Spain it will set up a Kindle account at Amazon Spain but it can easily be changed (assuming you also have a UK Amazon account). You just go to "manage my Kindle" and assign it to the UK store.

I can only change to the USA so I assume that, even though my Amazon account was started in the UK it´s because my invoice address is in Spain.

Is it possible to use the address of a friend for my kindle only?

Did you buy it in the UK? I did and have never had any problems with downloading from Amazon.co.uk.

Yes I bought it via Amazon.co.uk but my billing address is in Spain, which is where my UK credit cards are registered. It´s a complete pain as if I buy from Amazon US I still have to pay fees and exchange rates.

Well mine was bought in the UK and my UK credit cards have my spanish address and I never have any problems on buying from the UK site.

Why don´t you do a "live chat" on Amazon.co.uk and explain the problem I have found them really helpful. What would happen if you were moving back for instance.

As I said, if you have an Amazon UK account then just move your Kindle to that account. Your Kindle can only be registered to one account at a time.

You cannot buy books from a different account to the one that your Kindle is registered to.

If for some reason you wanted to buy from both stores then just keep moving your registered Kindle address from one to the other.
