Funnily enough, we've just changed to O2 here in London,, because the internet service provided by BT was rubbish, and cut out at regular intervals. It was a complete waste of time trying to get Youtube or the tele channels. Talking to others in the vicinity this is not unusual. It does feel strange that the service was so bad in a big city like London. Even stranger that O2 (owned by Telefonica) can provide such a better service at a lower cost, yet they use the same phone lines.

Yes I had a similar experience with them back in the UK, look at their small print and you will find it states that you will have to reconnect after one hour....a bit daft in my opinion!

No Don, we aren't talking about phone calls...
When I was with BT Internet in the UK using my ADSL line I had to reconnect every hour, it was the reason at the end of my twelve month contract I went back to Orange!

we have no problem, were on BT broadband with no download limit, getting 10mbps, now on Infinity, getting 35mbps, no time limits, computer on all day, now download limits, free UK calls at anytime, even free 0870 calls.

For this rubbish speed I'm paying €40 plus line charge every month. :frown:

Latest update....

The nice lady I spoke to yesterday at Telefonica said she would give me the new promotion, ie 3mbs for 24.95€ instead of 40€ per month.....and wonders never cease, today I have my 3mbs and it is actually working...
I'm a very happy bunny!

Just watch your bills, we had those offers, and almost always had to complain because the lower rates didn't reach our bills..

It confirms what I said earlier - they are at last responding to competition!

Be aware that the "special offer" is only valid for 12 months. If you have any sort of Movistar mobile contract they will let you have it "forever".

You may find that on your new invoice it still shows the old €39.90 charge but with a big discount to bring it down to €24.90 and that discount shows the time limit - it does on ours. Incidentally your new router officially belongs to Movistar since they gave it to you but the good news is that they will replace it free if it develops a fault.

What will happen in 12 months is anyone guess but my guess is that if you call them at the time they will renew it without a mobile contract. By then the competition will have reduced their charges to compete. At the very worst you can get a basic contract for €6/mth which is still cheaper than the old €40 charge.

I think the whole market is about to change because for a few years there have been loads of alternatives to Telefonica who were significantly cheaper - that is no longer the case. They will have to reduce their prices by at least €10 a month to get people away from Telefonica.

Of course not. After years of being naive, we have resolved to whatever is advertised to said is likely to cost a lot more. For example, the "gratuito" change in our electricity contract is likely to cost us up to €500 (if they ever get around to it), just as the "gratuito" change did last time we changed it. Absolutely normal.

They do seem to have changed.

When I negotiated my new offer it was correctly adjusted on my bill from the day I phoned them. The free router arrived 3 days later.

Others I know have had the same experience.

I'm just wondering why it is that after five days of my connection being all but unusable....the moment they swap me onto this new promotion there is miraculously no problem with the connection or the router, it's all working fine.
The synical side of me is thinking...could it be some kind of plot to get us all using the Movistar mobile service in order to keep the promotion price "for ever" I wonder? :sneaky:

But as you say Fred, it may be worth having the basic contract if that's the only way to keep it...we will just have to wait and see.

Re: Internet via Telefonica

when the BH moved out here 3yrs ago she took on a Telefonica contract for 1 year. When that expired she foned to tell them she was moving to another supplier unless they found an offer for her. Managed to get 2 roll overs on that basis at no extra cost and no reduction in service.

mind you, the last place was a 3rd floor flat in a 4 block complex and occaisionally the phone packed up, so also lost the internet.
the last time they said it was her telephone but 2 neighbours also had lost their fone service. Turned out to be problems with the connections with the wiring in a communal box in the underground car park.

Re: Internet via Telefonica

I'm sure everyone has their Telefonica ( Aren't we supposed to call them Movistar now?) horror stories but I'll share my most recent one as a cautionary tale about the 'english speaking operators on 1004'.
Last November our ADSL stopped working and the phone line was noisy. 1004 insisted I call 1002 who refused to speak spanish at a speed I could make sense of or to send out a technician.
2nd call to 1004 they agreed to contact 1002 for me - and suprise an engineer arrived. We got a new modem and a new connection box at the front gate. Everything worked for 2 hours!
Well its a long story and I won't bore you with it all but we had 2 more visits from engineers after I refused to say the problem was fixed. We even ended up taking our (just out of warranty) PC to a repair shop to prove it was not our problem.
We only really got attention when I called 1004 and asked how much notice they needed to cancel our contract? They refused to tell me but another engineer arrived within 2 hours and miraculously the problem got fixed and has remained so.
BUT Here's where it really started to go wrong. While the internet was out of commission we phoned 1004 and asked how much our November bill was. Telefonica don't have our bank account details we look up the bill and pay online each month. We couldn't do this now so we thought we would just go to the Correos and pay it. The 1004 girl said the bill was paid. It can't be I said - we haven't paid it. But no she insisted it was paid because we had complained and had no service for part of the month. So we didn't pay and (you've guessed it) the 2nd Jan just after we paid decembers bill, they cut us off. Not realising this I phoned 1002 thinking it was another fault and when I struggled in spanish they magically found me an english speaking operator who was delighted to tell me we had been cut off for nonpayment.
Back to 1004 who said it was 'impossible' that I had been told the Nov bill was paid. She said I should have paid it and then claimed back a credit for the non service days. Ok so I claimed the credit and she told me they would charge to reconnect us on Feb's bill and I could ring in March and claim that back as well. So I claimed the credit and we went to the Correos paid the bill.
In due course a letter arrived saying they owed us 14 euros.
On January's bill there was a charge for an engineer - 119 euros +IVA and a new modem, 7 euros +IVA. After several calls another letter promising a refund. This time the girl said they would refund everything to our bank account. When I told her they don't have our bank details she said it would be a cheque. I asked if they couldn't credit it against our next bill. The reply was that they never do that.
So we paid the bill not wanting to be cut off again and guess what? 2 days later we got a letter with a revised bill with all the credits on it. So we have now overpaid by about 150 euros.
Looking back not a single piece of information given to me by an english speaking 1004 operator was correct. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
If we could get phone and internet from anyone else we would, but I still don't no how much notice they need to cancel the service.:frown:
