My pc tells me it is running at 54Mbps and that my signal is excellent but it is still not fast enough to watch video clips etc.
I see BT is advertising fast internet but it says it is max 6Mbps ! Am I missing something ?
Currently I use Telycom but if anyone can suggest a faster option I would appreciate it.

I'm with Telefonica and at the moment my speed is all over the place. My end seems OK and I assume that they are busy with their current promotion, it's happened before when they've changed things. I'm jumping about between one and six Mbts this morning.

Best ways to improve bandwidth issues, Firstly make sure automatic updates is disabled in the operation system as these updates get downloaded in the background.
If your using Wifi switch it off and try a good old fashioned RJ45 cable to ensure no one is borrowing you bandwidth. Nothing is truly secure.
Reboot the internet Modem/Router your IP address may have ended up on the restrict bandwidth list, Rebooting gets a IP address change unless you reqested a fixed one.
Rebooting will also clears the caches on the router, Thus freeing up and speeding up its operation.
Let us know what router it is " Make and Model Number " the ones isp supply are cheap and free for a reason. It pays to use your own from a selective range of good known products.
Distance from the Exchange plays a very big part of what speed you can get, Further away the more attenuation on the line. Water related faults corroded cables that still allow voice communication really hamper high freq ADSL signals. Get the line tested.

I think "rip off UK" is 10 years out of date. Telecomms, electronics, car prices, food prices etc are generally cheaper in the UK then in most of the rest of Western Europe

Most have no interest in the culture, the language etc. Although I don't live there, I have been visiting for more years than I can remember, with many stays of a month, and I know only too well the sun isn't always shinning!
And when it is, they are all hiding from it. I often read on similar forums of Brits telling us of the great outdoor life they lead, but half the questions seem to be about how to get Brit TV, sounds like they are all glued to it, they can't live without it
They seem to watch a lot more than I ever do.
