My husband now has a Spanish driving licence afte his UK one expired. We are going on holiday to the USA and he needs to obtain an international driving permit. When he had a UK licence, we could get an IDP through the RAC but who do we get one through now he has a Spanish licence? Thanks

If you decide not to get an I.D.P. it is not the car hire office bods you have to worry about, it will be the police.

I was stopped by police in Illinois last year (yes, I was "speeding"). They didn't have any problem with my Spanish licence. And they let me go with only a warning.

Traffico issue them & it was quick and easy when I went there for mine last year.

Essentially the IDP is a translation document for your national licence - as the USA has a very large Spanish speaking population I wouldn't have thought a translation was necessary (allow an IDP may be technically a requirement it is not a driving licence in the legal sense anyway)

That is correct and with this link from Hertz in the USA (in Spanish) is states it is highly recommended.
and this link like the one FJ gave, states outside of the EU one needs a I.D.P.
and for the sake of 10€ is it worth not having one?
