Internal Building Plans

Round our way the police helicoptor flies about photographing, then you get a knock on the door to see the licence.

Yup, I've just been granted my license to lay a patio. The cost is based
on the cost of the work (+materials) and mine came to 22.50. (3% of the
total cost.)
Just how strict the enforcement is depends on the area you're in. Some
get a bit upset if unlicensed work is done, other areas are more laid back.
Last time I got some outside work done, the polica came sniffing around
and wanted to see the license, which was tacked up by the work-site.
So far as doing internal work goes, well what the eye don't see ....

After 2 what?
This is really wierd then ...... no one around here seems to think its necessary. I had a wall raised by 3 ft the other day (not facing the road) and presumably that would have needed a licence also.
I'm mystified as to why you would need a licence to tile a bathroom

The after 2 thing is when the town hall is shut !!!!!!!!!
It is the norm to get licences to do it all
We had to have a new one every three months for the skip.
And we havnt had one since October.

I shall adopt my Uk methods which i have used for some 20 years ,, which is i do what i want built lakes , built workshops , built 8` high fencing..here .
all technicaly needed permissions ..
Had 1 council inspector turn up about the building many years` ago i told him it was always there , just rebuilt it as it was old , he went away and said he would be back , never heard a word since !! That was some 14 years ago..
Had a planning guy turn up checking on a neighbours planning application a couple of years ago, spotted the wall and fences , likewise nothing heard ?.
I spoke to someone who knows a planning officer and was told in all fairness they absolutely hate any legal actions , so of the record , just do it they arent bothered only when a neighbour or someone complains will they act !!
And if you are the type to fight them in court they will back down bad press and stuff !!
So as long as there as good as my council will be no problems .

Well what happens here is that the police are sent and you are fined, Sometimes more, there are at least 2 house that are very near ours that have been stoped NO WORK can be carried out on them. They are both owned by spanish people.
It is not as simple as it seems, that is the way the councils generate income. From what I understand it is the main income of many small councils.

But we did have to have an extra licence to raise a wall about 2 foot as the people next door didnt want us to look into there patio from our terrace. It did us a favour, but cost us.
But if you read some of the posts there are whole estates built with out the correct paper work, can you imagine that happening in the UK ?

Our house is large and is beautiful, we have two patios and a wealth of original features. The central patio had a veranda and inner arches with a well. During the restoration, that isnt finished yet, we uncovered lots of arches that had been bricked in, and original brick floors and the original staircase and a fantastic Porta ( i think that is the way to spell it )
It is a stone frame around the door that had been covered for 75 years.
When it is finished I will post some pictures.
