It could do. It just means Municipal tax so it could be many things.

Car tax is a municipal tax but the correct title is Impuesto Sobre Vehículos de Tracción Mecánica.

Hi Fred, as we Brits use the term 'car tax' for the vehicle excise licence, I wonder what term the Spanish use for the above title? Surely they don't say "Impuesto Sobre Vehículos de Tracción Mecánica" every time......or do they?
Thanks.

It's abbreviated to IVTM - maybe that's what's used.

It says 68 euros and I have just checked with a friend what he paid and it was 68 euros. So cheap. At present we pay over 200.

As far as car tax is concerned it is still based on "fiscal horsepower" which is a function of engine size and configuration and has nothing to do with CO2 emissions.

The registration tax which is included in the price is now based on emissions and can make a big difference to the on the road price.

Road tax can vary enormously from one town to another. When we moved just 15 miles it was three times as much and we currently pay more than we would do in the UK.

Eventually it will have to be based on emissions but there is no sign of it changing in the short term.
