When we travelled from Spain to UK and back, we used the ferry from Santander, cheap for dog. I don't know the price for the cabins on the newer ferry where dog and human share cabin.

It was 15 quid each on Santander ferry from Plymouth, Cats and birds stay in the car, pens for dogs could be a little more expensive.

when we came over via the chunnel I decided not to charge the dog for travel, food and accommodaton on the way so he would probably say it was Free

Re: importing pet from uk

The journies we took from Santander to Plymouth/Portsmouth cost about36/38 each way for our small dog in the kennels on the Pont Avon. Dogs had to be in kennels when we travelled with ours. Cats stayed in the cars. No idea about anything else. The Cap Finistre ( spelling may be wrong) has no kennels, it does dog friendly cabins. I doubt I would use pet transport company and yes if you can get to airports/airlines that take dogs they are horrendously expensive. One lady paid over 300 for her dog, more than her flight and they have to go in the hold I am told.

If anyone is contemplating this they should make the journey in the hold themselves before inflicting it on their dog.

legalised animal cruelty.

The price that UK airlines charge is just ludicrous! I was involved a few weeks ago with re-homing a litter of four pups to Austria, all four went into one large dog carrier and the total cost, Malaga to Vienna was €75! (Apparently it would have only been €40 before July but they put the price up for summer season)

I, personally, would never use a pet courier company. I used to know a guy who worked for one round here, he was not an animal lover for a start and they were transported in less than ideal conditions :(

We did the chunnel when we brought our cat & dog over. We spent a leisurely five days driving through France and down to CDS. Stayed at pet friendly hotels on the way and we all arrived stress free.

well done, those two little words make so much difference to ourselves so what about the animal(s) we profess to love !
many have hang-ups from the way they have been brought up, all our dogs have been from rescue centres, we have no control over how they have been treated before they joined us, only whilst in our care.

one dog used to hide when I came in from the papershop every morning. took 5 years to stop that, but she still watched me carefully, still hid if I swatted a wasp.
a stressed dog can become a vicious dog without understanding why. that isnt fair, its only trying to protect itself.

on our journey we found the hotels from the likes of Accor to be pet friendly, we were out of season so there weren't any other dogs around.

Yes - the two we brought out with us died about 4 years later aged 14 & 16 and we'd always said that when they went we'd have no more so we were free to travel when & where we liked. Six years later and we now have six rescue dogs and 4 cats - 1 rescued from the village and the other 3 just appearing after, I suspect, being dumped on our land by people knowing us soft Brits live here!

We are also involved in short term fostering of dogs that have been found homes in Germany, Holland, Austria and Scandinavia by the respective charities and are waiting for flights to be arranged :)

(And no, despite living less than 2 hours from Granada, we still haven't been able to visit the Alhambra!)
