As you say, "Iceland" Spain doesn't exist. Iceland in the UK are being approached by the major supermarket players as they want their outlets.

Overseas SL - who we all incorrectly call "Iceland" will continue to sell whatever British products they choose to import - there is no suggestion that they are for sale which is why they denied it strongly.

Yes Fred you're right the "Iceland" trademark is just a franchised use of the name... also Overseas SL are not even a UK company, they are in fact based in Tenerife.
I can only speak for the Mijas store, it must be the busiest store on the coast so not likely to be for sale.

...... and extortionate!! If it is for sale I would have thought they're just selling for the money and will make a fair bit. The buyers would be crazy to change it

On some items yes I agree, on most it's a 20% mark up, but on something like a whole turkey the price is way off the scale!

One thing that does irritate me about the way they operate is the buy one get one free....even though these are manufacturers offers you don't get one free, I find that somewhat greedy and dishonest. :sneaky:

Its a shame that the Mijas store is not for sale as I suspect the manager who runs the place is an a+++wipe, and the staff there are clearly intimidated when he appears on the shop floor. This though is not uncommon if he was recruited from the UK where this bully boy style has in the past been allowed/encouraged in some sectors.

Visit the Javea store and you will see a totally different atmosphere, with happy staff (bye & large) who will carry on dealing with a customers query when the boss appears.

No I can assure you that I do not know either manager at either store & this is just my observations, and my discreet chats to members of staff. ;)

NO it's not for sale!!!

Iceland in the UK might be but that HAS NOTHING TO DO with "Iceland" in Spain.

Our local Iceland is bursting at the seams with customers, and most of the customers are bursting at the seams. We're both on a diet and have been for years, many years, and when they opened our local Iceland I feared the worst, and all my nightmares have come true.

It's the deceit that gets to me, she went there today to buy cleaning stuff and bleach, which she did buy, but I've spotted sausages and bacon in the fridge, and Mars bars.

I hope they do go bust and the sooner the better, otherwise we will. Burst.

we don't have an Iceland in Granada, but have a Lidl - rather an unkempt untidy store and an Aldi which is a fairly decent shop.
the BH complains the one here in the UK is far superior in terms of product, layout, staff, but still buys all her bottled water there.

We do have a C&A, although a rather small shop, especially as there are 3 in Seville IIRC

Our nearest Lidl was recently completely re-built and is now clean, bright & modern with an in-store bakery and a large independant butcher's shop attached. Maybe they're doing a modernisation programme and will get to Granada before too long.

I find it funny that going into C&A is a bit like a time warp as they still have the labels 'Clock House' 'Yessica' & 'Sixth Sense' - well overdue for a change methinks :p

Aldi in the UK is a different company to the Aldi in Spain which is why most people think the UK one is better.

I'm normally a big defender of Spain, but I've seen this type of manager in Spanish companies too. The "management by fear" technique knows no national boundaries, I suspect.
