Ibuprofen - expensive in Costa Blanca

Ibuprofen - expensive in Costa Blanca
I take ibuprofen regularly but as it was so cheap in the UK I didn't ever bother asking for it on prescription.
I have bought bottles of tablets in Spain very cheaply but think it may have been on the Costa del Sol.
Our local farmacia in the Costa Blanca south charges €4+ for a packet containing one strip of tablets.
Does anyone know where I can get cheap ibuprofen please? We regularly travel between Orihuela Costa and El Campello on the coast and as far inland as Orihuela city/Elche etc and also visit Murcia. Anywhere in that area would do.
Alternatively can you get it on prescription in Spain? We haven't registered with a health centre yet as although our "residencia" has been approved we can't collect the green card for another week.

ISTR being charge only a couple of euros for a packet of 800mg x 24 in a farmacia in Granada,
Spain seems to issue stronger than the UK (400mg max OTC) and I know they have come off the prescription list now but feel sure you should be able to get them much cheaper than you are suggesting.

Sounds like you have been given a fancy brand name.
I get 40 x 600mg CINFA coated Ibuprofen tablets for about 2 Euros. Most pharmacies should have CINFA or KERN PHARMA brands.

I bought a box of 40 x 600mg for a couple of euros last week - Ibuprofeno Teva
as the previous posters says, the CINFA brand is cheap too
I can't find the receipt but I bought 4 items in total, one of which was about 5€ (not the Ibuprofen) & the entire total was only about 12€

If you have (accidentally) drunk too much, have one before you go to bed and you won't get a hangover!

There's a new anti-inflammatory painkiller now called Vimovo, which addresses the stomach problems caused by ibuprofen. It's much more expensive though, best to get it on prescription.

before I left the UK I was being prescribed co-codamol, after some time my GP changed it to Ibuprofen as the former caused stomach problems.
presumably like all things it is a question of moderation

If our spanish GP prescribe Ibuprofen he always prescribed Omeprazal too to avoid stomach damage.
I have noticed with farmacias on the CDS they tend to sell tourists the most expensive brand. A friend who was staying on the coast asked for something for an ear infection. She was sold an antibiotic costing 28€ when Amoxtecillin costing a few euro would have done the same.

Thank you all. I will ask for the cheaper versions by name next time.

Lynn you are correct re paracetamol damaging liver if taken in excess. I used to swear by Ibuprofen but avoid them now. Talking of Omeprzal last time I was in Spain I went to the village Pharmacy and bought a packet of 28 over the counter no prescription required cost 2 euros 40. In the UK I get a prescription for 2 packs £7.60 so I must be subsidising some body's more expensive medication, or off course just getting ripped off.

Dom I was told by the Doctor that Co-Codamol does cause problems i.e. constipation. Ibuprofen is a very effective anti inflammatory don't get me wrong but as you say everything in moderation. I think in my case I just took them for too long as I had a chronic back problem and needed to work. You live and learn.
