Default Ibiza moving experience - please

Hello

I'm very new here and would be very grateful if any of you could share your experience of relocating to Ibiza; the good, the bad and the ugly

We will be moving there at some point but have alot to take care of before we do; it's quite likely that we'll buy a holiday apartment as a stepping stone before going for the 'big one'.

We're doing lots in preparation and research, research research but some personal accounts would be really useful.

Many thanks

Angie

Firstly welcome to the forum.

Can you be a bit more specific?

Are you planning to retire there or will you be looking for work?

Are you planning to make it your permanent home or just visit?

The more info you give the easier it will be for members to give you relevant advice.

Hi

Thanks for the welcome.

Apologies for the lack of info; yes we want to live there (me, husband and 5 yr old son). Retirement would be great but we're both in our 40's and will be working. Currently, i work as a specialist nurse in nutrition in the NHS and husband is self employed - computer programmer, web hosting, all manner of IT related stuff etc. He has an established client base and can operate anywhere as long as he has reliable internet access. I am setting up a juice business here, not premises based but more markets and events, juicing on the spot rather than bottling. I'm also learning massage and spanish . I like to have a few things going on and feel that they are all potential strings to my bow so to speak.

Our dream of moving to Ibiza has been growing for a while and although the temptation may have been to just take the leap and go, we are aware of many of the risks, in addition to having to be just a little sensible for our son's well being.

As i mentioned in my original post, it looks as though we will probably end up buying a very small holiday apartment to spend regular time out there (we are only 30mins from Bristol airport), and to act as a stepping stone to us making the complete move.

Although i have a flat in London that i will be selling when / if the prices come up a little, we are not well off.

The sort of experience i am hoping to hear about is the actual move there; how did that happen, settling in, type of accomodation, experiences of schools / starting school. There are lots of specific information that i would like to obtain but i'd planned to save that for when and if i make contact with a willing Ibiza based person who doesn't mind me chewing their ear off

Saying that, if anyone knows about Ibiza regualtions relating to mobile trading (not phones, mobile juicing) i would be very grateful

Sorry for the vagueness initially, i guess as a newbie, i didn't want to be overbearing straight off

Grateful for any info at all.

hi & welcome.

I doubt the town hall would allow a mobile juicing concern as it takes business away from the bars who pay taxes & are already struggling.

I may be wrong but someone far more intelligent than me may wish to comment.

Also, I wouldn't sell your London investment to move to Spain at your age, maybe in 20 years but not now.

Maybe not the advice you wanted to hear. Ibiza is lovely - I usually get over to Formentera each summer for a days cycling but I am in holiday mode.

I've never lived there, but stayed over for a short while.
It's a nice small island, with the emphasis on small, as I imagine there could be a limited number of attractions and things to do and see for ppl.living there on a permanent basis.
You are probably aware of it's wild side in the South, mainly just at high season, and quieter pleasant places further North, however I didn't find too much of interest in the Central area.
No disrespect to anyone here, but in order to find lots of detailed inside info.and opinions regarding accomodation and business possibilities, your best option is probably a forum dedicated specifically to Ibiza, as is the case with most other Spanish islands.

Thanks Poolboy and Dick D

It's funny, although i know the island really well as a tourist (having had many many trips there), it's hard to build upon that without actually spending longer there; obvious to many probably but limiting non the less.

With regards to my London property, it's complicated and has become a weight around my neck which i would be glad to be rid of. True, i could hang onto it for 20 years as you suggest PB but it would be at the expense of my sanity. It has to go.

I'll do what you suggest and try to find an Ibiza forum for specific information.

thanks again.
