Does anyone have any information re Iberdrola giving a ten percent discount off bills if meters are read every two months instead of every month. Heard this yesterday for the first time so not sure if it's a fact.

Around here all meters are read every two months, every other bill being estimated. We dont get a discount though

Our meters have also been read every two months with no estimates so far. I think the 10% discount is just another one of those rumours.

Have just applied to go onto their Two Part Tariff with off peak electicity charges of 6.04 €cents per kwh. available from 2300 - 1300hrs summer time and 2200 - 1200hrs winter time. Anything to reduce their high charges. They said they will contact me in 3 -4 days but won't hold my breath

If anyone is interested in doing this - get in touch with them and they will send you a new contract for you to sign and return. I sent mine by post but I believe it may be possible to sign, scan and send by email

So you dont get a bill every month still? Thats strange. We get (usually) an overestimated bill, plus the bills have been getting higher and higher this year, presumably due to rate increases

If you are specifically on the two-month tariff, then you only get bills every two months.

Monthly tariffs are sometimes estimated and sometimes 'sin consumo' and occasionally they come and read the meter (very hit-and-miss though). I invariably end up reading all the meters, ringing them through only to be told that they have already billed for this quarter and so will use this reading for next time (doh!!!!!).

Agree with you about the bills getting higher and higher. Am seriously looking into installing a gas water heater (the on demand type) as I think the biggest culprit is the electric water heater.

Stick with the electric heater. Now you are on the off peak tariff, fit a timer, keep the thermostat set low and you will save a fortune!

I have all the hot water I need for about €50 a year.

I assume you are on the off peak tariff, if so do you heat the water for the whole of the off peak time or only for just a few hours?

It's on for three hours from about 4am. It usually reaches temperature (about 50c) well under 3 hours. There is plenty of water for showers in the morning and it is still warm by late afternoon.

If we think we will need more hot water later - maybe a party later and lots of washing up, we override the timer for an hour or so before the off peak switches off at 12 noon (1pm in the summer).

It works well for just the two of us - a houseful of kids and guests would need a different approach.

It's fair to say that water heating is probably the smallest item on our bill (which is now about €2000 a year).

With careful planning of the usage of the various appliances we manage to get our off peak usage up to 70% of the total.

i wish Iberdrola would offer discounts. we pay more then 400 euros every 2 months. our last bill was 630. as to why who knows. there is just 2 of us and a baby. low energy light bulbs, cook top and water heating are gas.

Not really much good, surely? It only measures the device you plug into it.

Can't measure the hob or anything that has direct feed.


What you really need is something that measures at the 'board' so that by switching appliances on/off you can immediately see the effect they have - is there such a device?
