oxford dictionary south-western, as it is not a specific location. but most people wouldn't notice how it was written.:o

Just to make it even more confusing, Collins lists it as southwestern. But as Tony says, nobody would really notice because, as you can see, dictionaries and ourselves on here can't agree.

Seems you're right. Went into Google Fight (great page!!!) and here are the results:

South West v Southwestern - South West win 556,000,000 to a mere 26,800,000 http://www.googlefight.com/index.php...2=Southwestern

South West v South Western - a bit closer this one but South West still wins with South Western getting a respectable 379,000,000 http://www.googlefight.com/index.php...=South+western
