It has been noted they didn't have the courage of their convictions and give a prediction prior to the game.

Well, that was a game I enjoyed, especially when Lampard, a West Ham man to the bone, scored the goal. And the best player on the field, Parker, was another West Ham man.

About the interesting side discussion about nationality, I'm afraid that I'm a bastard who got shuffled around a bit in the distant past. Most of it wasn't my fault, and I learned some funny songs along the way. I can sing the Sash, Boys behind the wire, Bubbles and Deutschland without pausing for breath, or blushing.

And a Spanish neighbour, a Franco man, is teaching me some old Spanish songs.

William Hill offered 14/1 for Lampard scoring the first goal. I would have put some money on but madam was hugging the computer.

Oh dear, it wouldn't be a case of sour grapes by any chance ?
You do an excellent impersonation of C'man by the way.

If you take the trouble to check the posts you may just happen to see a couple of smileys. I would have thought they might just give you a little hint.
Where on earth is your sense of humour,(and yours Stevie), ?

Jeez it's only a game and a friendly one at that for Chrisake.

Fluke or not, it was a lot more accurate that the 4-1 to Spain without even breaking into a sweat!

I gave that prediction...I don't know anything about football except everyone said the spanish team was brilliant

At least you showed a bit of backbone in giving a prediction before the game!

Is it me or am I the only one disappointed with the England performance. Totally negative when playing at Wembley. God knows what we would be like playing away games.
Let's hope we play a more open game against the Swedes next week.

It wasn't entertaining for me, Capello clearly had a strategy to strangle the mid field and it worked. The Spanish are masters at keeping the ball in that area. They are very difficult to play against becuse of the way they hold the middle ground and then break. They (the Spanish) had a couple of bad off side calls. England were chasing the game throughout the first half and only gained any confidence after Lampard's goal. I agree, England need that self belief from the start. But I'm glad we won it certainly helps morale. I t will be interesting to see what team Capello comes up with for the Swedes. Parker deserved MOTM. The problem is that when England play a more open game usually against opposition they think they can beat they always leave themselves exposed. I think the tactics were right last night and it paid off

Actually thinking about it does depend on the question, in Spain if asked where I am from I say the name of the village or nearest city. If asked my nationality I say Scottish. if asked if that is different from English I say yes but and we are British. The European would come in of asked if being a Scot in Spain what did I think I was probably reply European.
I agree about the european bit. I always say I was born in the UK by chance, I choose to live in Spain.

That's along the same lines that you can't choose your relatives, but you can choose your friends.

Yes, for me they got it about right and did the best they could under the circumstances. To have attempted a more open game would likely have been suicidal.
In any event we saw just how defensive the talented Spaniels could be in the World cup finals and it certainly paid off for them.

One interesting crafty Spanish tactic I've noticed is how they take counter attacking opposition forwards out of the game on the flanks by whatever means possible as soon as they've crossed the half way line, so as not to allow them anywhere near goalscoring range or risk conceding free kicks in dangerous positions.

Unfortunately for once it backfired on them last night.

Pity the EU didn't choose their friends more carefully when considering the huge expansion of more recent years.
They appear to me to be a right mottley looking crew these days with quite a few real dodgy characters in there that I certainly would be very dubious about calling my friends.
