Someone more knowledgeable than myself will post more details but when buying a car you need to get it checked for outstanding tax before you hand over the cash. It's not as simple as money in exchange for a V5 and keys, that said my gestor sorted checking out and registering mine fairly cheaply.

We bought ours cash late last year. We wanted 6 weeks completion as those dates worked best for us but the vendors insisted on longer. In the end I was pleased about that as it takes time to arrange Power of Attorney and NIEs and bank accounts (ours took 3 weeks).
