House hunting in Murcia
Hi everyone my wife and I are looking to retire to Spain in about 4 years time and are looking to buy a property in the Murcia region to use as a holiday home initially for use by us as well as my family and then to move to Spain for maybe 6 months of the year and rent it out during the summer again to family and friends.
We are coming out in February2016 to look for a property but not sure where in Murcia would be the most suitable for us. We have a budget of around 90-95000Euros and ideally are looking for a semi detached or town house with 3 beds and 2 baths with a rooftop solarium and off road parking for a car and a shared pool, are we being realistic with our expectations on what we can get for our money??
I have a thousand and one questions that I would like answered but I will feed them through to the forum bit by bit so not to bore you all to tears, any help or advice will be greatly appreciated

I think you'll get what you want for that amount of money. Don't forget taxes, you need to be clear with agents whether the 95k is all in or if there is extra for the taxes.
I know some people who live in San Pedro del Pinitar and their properties are worth around that amount. It's a popular spot although I cannot work out why, but each to their own.

You should find something easily enough in that price bracket.
What I would advise is do your homework first. We have had our house in Murcia region for 10 years now and still find something to boggle the mind every week. For instance, Murcia is the most heavily taxed region in Spain, odd that as its supposed to be the poorest. Or maybe not, its so poor because of the high taxes
A friend whose husband has just passed away, has found out not only has she to pay inheritance tax on his half of the property, but is also having to pay half of the car and half of the furnishings as well. Thats a double whammy as when they moved here 3 years ago, they had to pay 27% import duty on the furnishings from the USA! Then on top of the inheritance tax she is also having to pay capital gains tax once her home is sold.
Want to have a garden fire every so often to burn garden waste? No problem, pay for a license at the townhall. Want to do some minor building work? No problem pay for a license for the work, then pay a 'refundable' tax in case the roadway is damaged by the builder. I say refundable, we paid 640€ for this 'tax' 2 years ago, even though we live up a shingle track between fields. We applied for a refund as no damage was done, to date the council have still not sent anyone to check the camino, and we still wait!
Buying a car? don't buy it in Murcia, cross the border into Alicante region next to no purchase tax compared to Murcia, the list goes on and on, seemingly without end. The old saying comes to mind, nothing in life is certain except death and tax. Murcia has the last part down to a fine art and is working on the first!
