This horse could die!
At the end of the marina in Ayamonte on waste ground is a tethered horse. On Sunday we checked and the horse had no water! He was desperate to drink and we gave him several gallons spaced out over a few hours. Again the next day nobody came to bring him food or water. A horse needs 5 to 10 gallons of water a day and if deprived may die in 3 to 6 days. We We are in a motorhome by the marina and have delayed our departure to try and ensure he will be looked after. Unfortunately local vet and port office not bothered. The opinion is "this is Spain, there are loads of horses in the same situation".
There was a Spanish couple who came at the weekend to give him some food and water but they can't get there during the week. Someone else left a load of bread.
This is a heartfelt plea to the animal lovers amongst you to keep a check on this horse. He is lovely grey gent and very friendly. The really important thing is that he has access to drinking water. You can access the laundry room up the steel stairs in the big white building with the painting of Portugal burning by putting any sort of credit/other card in the slot and can get water.
Nothing more that we can do than hope the users of this forum are animal lovers also. Best regards James and Angie

Hi Angie & James
We are here until 19th September and will do our best to take food and water to this poor horse every day during the week. We will also make some enquiries as to how he can be looked after long term as we have a 'very friendly animal loving' young vet who may be able to offer some advice.
Regards
Lin & Ed

Re: This horse could die!
Dear Lin and Ed, Thank you so much for your reply. We have decided to stay until Sunday so will make sure he is ok until then. It will make it much easier for us to move on knowing that there is someone in the area looking out for him. It was pitiful seeing him so desperate for water. He drank 5 gallons straight off and would have taken more if we had given it in one go. Again thanks.

A plea to all animal lovers!
James & Angie have now left Ayamonte and we will be leaving next Tuesday. We have been visiting the horse nearly every day to make sure he has water and a few treats - carrots and apples! As you can see from the picture there isn't anything left on the ground for him to graze on!
The relevant agency has been contacted and is investigating but not sure how long it will take to ensure he is properly looked after!
If anyone has some spare time after the 19th to check that he has sufficient water it would put ours and James & Angie's minds at rest!
He is such a lovely horse and so friendly!!
Many thanks
