Default Hiya! Advice wanted please!

Hiya there,

Well I'm writing because I just wanted some advice really. I am looking to either move to Barcelona (as my Spanish fiancée lives and works there) or for her to come here (less likely). We have been together for 6 years now and really want to be living together at some point this year. We are both currently working at the moment; she's in Barcelona, and I'm here in England. I am looking (and applying) for jobs in Barcelona and she is doing so in England. I have also (maybe stupidly I know, but love's like that!) considered going out there without a job and just get a flat together and see what happens, as even though the situation is, albeitly, terrible in Spain at the moment, with 4 and a half million people unemployed, compared to 1.6 million here in the UK, I am sure I would eventually find something. I do have savings which would cushion me for a time, but certainly not forever.

What would your advice be?

Thanks a lot in advance for all your answers!

Jordan

Hi,

I was in a similar situation a couple of years ago, and I took the plunge!
I moved to the south of Spain with no job, leaving a really good position and a career behind in London.
It's true that the unemployment rate is really high, but this mainly reflects all the people that left school to work in building sites during the housing boom.
That said if you do speak decent Spanish you should not have a problem especially in a big city. I found work after 6 months, and in the meantime I was English classes to local businesses.
Regarding online applications, here is always better to follow them up with hone calls, faxes and even turn up to show your interest in the job. This because of the huge amount of unrelevat application that people make toany vacancy they see...

Hope this helps

Marco
