And just to be a tad pedantic (alright very!) "stereo speakers" is an often used misnomer. A pair of speakers aren't inherently "stereo". They only become so when reproducing a stereo source. They're just a pair of speakers albeit their drivers may be positioned slightly differently on some models to enhance the sound stage.
Unrelated to this thread I concede, but i'm reminded of the 'boy racers' who would display pod speakers on the back shelves of their cars which carried the writing "200 Watts" or similar proudly displayed on them. The owners really believed adding them would deliver 200 watts of power output from the 10 watt amplifiers in their car units!

Right now I have a Onkyo DR-S501 2.1 receiver/dvd with Onkyo sub and speakers. Went for this when we moved to Spain as the boss wouldn't let me install wires and speakers for the 7.1 amp I had back then.

In reality I very very rarely watch DVDs, with the Freesat HD channels going away soon I can see my requirement becoming pretty much 2.0

The source for music is mostly 320Kbs MP3s from an ipod classic via a Pure i20 digital (internal d/a converter) dock. I have a load of CDs but they are still in my daughter's loft back in the UK.

I may actually change the Onkyo amp in the not to distant future. But for now it has a sub which I will continue to utilise. Although the boss would love that to go in the bin as it'a a little intrusive in the room.

Annoyingly in my dining room I have a pair of awesome Ruark Prologue floorstanders but there is just no space for them in the living room where we mainly listen to music. So practically and sadly wall mount is my only option. Tough life innit.

So I guess in a nutshell I'm looking for a decent pair of wallmount speakers primarily for stereo music, although they will also provide sound for TV and PS3.

Hi Bob, I am by no means an expert and I stand to be corrected. There are certain makes that often appear in top 10 reviews for bookshelf speakers in your budget range.
Wharfedale diamond 10.1, Q Acoustic 2020i, Audioengine and Boston.
You already have a first rate amp although perhaps there are other models in the range that are smaller than the one you already have.
Other good amps are Cambridge, Marantz, Yamaha and Denon.
May I suggest you have a look ar "What hi fi" awards for 2012, Amazon feedbacks, "cnet reviews" and "test freaks".

considering the amount of power needed to get the cone moving on an average 200w speaker it is likely they will be putting excessive strain on the car unit, driving the amp at full output all the time.
that is why the average car speaker is relatively flat sounding with little depth, they need very little power to start the cone moving, but what can you expect from a speaker that you can buy for a couple of £'s.

usually makes me think that some of these "racers" have more dead weight in their car than they realise for the good of the mpg, and probably cost them more than the car is worth.

The 2020i are What HiFi's best buy in the under £200 category so must be worth a listen.

I like Cambridge and have an AM10 driving the Ruarks. Only had it for a couple of months so not really settled in yet. But I'm liking the sound so far. I would consider a larger Cambridge amp when if/when I swap out the Onkyo. Now wishing that I hadn't sold my Cyrus/PSX on ebay before we moved over..

that is a blast from the past, remember them when visiting a stereo shop in Tokyo decades ago.
remember a shipmate bought one, when he got home realised no one had heard of it and his warranty was worthless
