understand the feeling (althought for us it's Germany rather than UK) my wife's company is restructering and basicly everyone in her department will lose thier jobs. We're in better shape than most because we have advance notice and she has a chance of a position back in Germany as she is a German speaker (but CDN by birth) but it's still scary. We've gone from dreaming of buying a house in Spain to sudening checking out how cheap we can rent a place.

good luck

So sorry to hear of your trouble.
Try the housing associations. You will get a full list on the housig corporation website. I dont know if I am allowed to post the link but will try http://www.housingcorp.gov.uk/server...conWebDoc.1134
Try to chat them up. They are usually as helpful as they can be.

can you not stay in Spain and collect unemployment welfare? From what I've been reading the cost of living has really shot up in the UK, even more than here.

Cost of living is astronomical here in UK. The real increases in RPI for the last several years are much closer to 10 per cent a year than the Government's CPI figures of 2 or 3 percent. A loaf of good bread from a baker is 1.55. A half pound of butter over £1 in supermarket. Tin of tomatoes you would not believe. You really have to shop around

We are really feeling the pinch. Prior to Xmas when we filled a tank of diesel with 50 litres of fuel, the price was about £45 or even a bit less.

Now the same amount of fuel is getting on for £70. That's a huge increase, and is reflected in food prices. We spent £85 on food at the end of the week, and the cupboard/fridge was pretty bare after we'd put it all away.

The people who return to the UK complaining that Spain is too expensive just make me laugh. Boy, are they in for a shock as they hit that learning curve.

Mind you, I always suspect that when they go back complaining about the heat and the prices, the truth is more prosaic, that they are desperately homesick and they are happy to ignore the crap climate and the high prices in the UK.

No more stupid I guess than those who go to Spain with the rose tinteds firmly in place.

I so agree with you bil - we used to fill our fiesta up for about £25 now its about £40 and our shopping bill has gone from £100 per week to about £135/140 and we dont buy anything or much different to what we used to.

If you go to Citizens Advice Bureau they will give you a list of them. The good news is we managed to get back on the property ladder 2 years later (it's been a struggle having a large mortgage over a short period of time) so it's not all dismal. At least you tried something different and experienced new culture. We are now thinking of emigrating to Canada which we have visited a couple of times and are researching jobs at the moment. Spain is OK if you have a property and a decent pension or loads of money but I found that working there was very poor wages and you could not make a living. Good luck for the future and take one step at a time.

Thanks, could not have put it better...I hope I will be in a similar position to you both in 2 years..thanks again for ur support..things are beginning to clear now after the initial realization our dream was an illusion but it was enjoyable on the journey...light is arising
