It`s not radweld but they sell similar in most garages, but I would try and get it repaired properly.

Overheating or leaking? Radweld won't stop your engine overheating, it just repairs leaks in your radiator.

Chances are if your overheating it's a very simple fault to repair, i.e. just bleeding the system or fitting a new thermostat.

Well - we did keep topping up the water for the past couple of days and after an hour's run yesterday it was empty again with steam appearing over the bonnet - so it's worth a try :)

Thats what many of these radweld type things are. I know one of the commercial ones are human shit while the SAS use the egg method.

You really need to find out why its overheating !
Is it leaking out via a hose/union ?, if so easy to repair.
Is the radiator leaking ?, if so a bit more costly to repair.
Yes radweld can give you a temporary repair for the above, but its not a cure.

Thermostats are often faulty but rare to fail in the closed position.

No evidence of a leak ?, then then it may be going out via the exhaust because of a blown head gasket/cracked head/cracked block depending on just what engine type & mileage you vehicle has.
Have you checked the oil level ?, is it turning milky ?, is it rising up the dipstick ?

I know people used to recommend using eggs in the 1950s but even then they weren't recommended by many as proprietary products were widely available.

They weren't "extracting the urine" were they, as squaddies do tend to do that.

However I must admit to trying eggs once. I seem to recall it doing more harm than good but then; any port in a storm.

radweld you can get in any car spares shop, or most garages if you need it today.

but i´d try and find out where the waters going. fill it up, leave it running on the driveway, see where its coming out. if its not leaking, as said above...might be the head gasket.

to test this - there *might* be water in the oil, take the cap off and see if the oil is milky / like mayonaise. or, check the oil level after a while and see if its gone up. or, open the water bottle for the radiator and see if the water is bubbling. (do this when the car is cold! hot steam strips skin. ive seen it happen.)
