Rental rates vary depending on where in the country you choose. In CB North in the town of oliva you can get a flat for €300 a month, whereas a house is nearer €500 - €650

There are not English state schools. You would be living in Spain, state schools are Spanish. You could choose private English schools, but for those you have to pay.
Your chance of getting work is slim. Unemployment in Spain is rife. Dont count on getting income from a job such as you describe.

In my experience the crime rate is no different to the UK. I always felt perfectly safe wandering around the town at night and I didnt experience the hoody groups hanging around on a street corner as happens in the UK. I know some would disagree, thats just how I found it

+1, you could find accommodation cheaper, e.g. Almeria is very cheap. Without skills your chances of finding employment are very poor. Nusery and private schooling for your 2 kids would cost far more than you would earn working in a shop / café.

You would not be entitled to free health care here. Private healthcare would be expensive.
Dentistry is private, no NHS
You would have to fulfill residency requirements, proof of income is necessary-see other threads on this subject.
It is very unlikely that you would find work
You need enough money to last for at least a year if you couldn't find work
Tax is an important consideration. The system is different here.
State schooling, though free involves expenses
No family allowance here, and yours from UK would be stopped by the DWP
Look through all the relevant threads on aspects of moving to Spain with a young family, and I think you will find that unless you are very wealthy, you would be better off in UK. When the children have left home you can think again. Many things will have changed.
Sorry if that's not what you wanted to see, but better to know now!

As Concierge for the Spanish section of BE I would like to say hello and welcome.

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

Please let me know if you need any further help.

Rosemary
