HELP - MALLORCA -HEARING AID
#1
Hi
We are visiting our elderly rellies next week in Mallorca and they both need hearing aids. They keep saying there is nowhere in Mallorca that they do them which I don't believe for one minute. They do not speak spanish (!) and are really elderly so thought we might try and get them to a place where they sell them while we are there and get them fixed up before we come back home. Does anyone know of anywhere, they live in Cala Murada but I expect we will have to travel with them to Palma will we? Any advise much appreciated.
Thanks
Shirley

..This Hearing Aid looks like a Bluetooth phone reciever and is less than a £5..You can be ripped off paying £100s of pounds buying hearing aids..some are £1000 look them up at Boots and then go to ebay for the same item cheaper..

it would be best if you can get them to the local doctors for a proper hearing test and evaluation before spending low sums on what are in reality amplifiers not frequency range improvers, or high sums on untested and uncalibrated pieces of plastic where people are making commissions out of you and them.
I would hope there is a support organisation or a group of expats that you can pass them on to to get the correct items fitted after you have gone home
sri in Granada so not able to help other than give what I hope is good advice.
kind regards

generally all adults suffer hearing loss as they get older - the internal components of the ear gradually (faster or slower dependent on the person) become less flexible. This results in initially an upper frequency loss which means the frequency band heard will become less i.e. the high frequency bits in a piece of classical music will become lost, in the same way as the high pitched shrieking of young children will also become more bearable.

GAES is a company that specialises in auditory testing etc. If you go on the link above there is a drop down box to pick various areas on Mallorca.
They will do the tests and supply a hearing aid. This is also a useful link for those who need hearing aid batteries etc. Going to a local GP to check the canals would be a good first step too but at the centro de salud you may have to wait a while before you can get syringing etc done. I know people here have to wait weeks and so they prefer to go privately
