As Concierge for the Spanish section of BE I would like to say hello and welcome.

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

The police station in Gandia is where we got out NIE´s.

Please let me know if you need any further help.

Hello Rosemary
we heard there are two police stations in Gandia one near the hospital in town at the back I think there said other near carrefour ??
Did you just go there no trouble or did you have to be there early to pull a number. Hope to go Monday morning
We got the patron from townhall so far so good.

It is the police station near to the hospital not the one near to Carrefour. We got ours in 2004 so the system is probably very different now so I cannot tell you about it.

We got our NIE numbers a year ago at the police station near the hospital. We had to go the day before at 2pm and queue for a number. They give out 40 numbers (cloakroom tickets) per day. You go back the next day and you are seen in the number order. We were lucky and got numbers 3 and 4 so we were in and out early on. Other people had to wait ages. Our solicitor came with us and did all the form filling and answering questions and then took us to the bank to pay the fee and then took us back to show the policeman the receipt. He then issued the NIE numbers. The system may well have changed again since then so check first.

up until the changes in rules last summer the extranjero offices were swamped with South American's looking for a move, but with the money involved this has dropped off dramatically.
so if you get there early on you may get seen and sorted on the same day.

you may like to see http://britishexpats.com/forum/showthread.php?t=794401

The Spanish finance ministry seem to think it is about €5,500 p.a.

well, it might be that - not sure....

but what it IS, is roughly the amount of money the govt gives a family to live on per month when their paro/dole runs out

& by 'runs out', I don't mean when they've spent it - I mean once they stop actually paying it - you only get dole for a limited period here, depending upon how long you worked before you became unemployed

I didn't think you were asking for anything - I was just trying to explain how
they come up with that figure

there doesn't seem to be anything official as to exactly how much money they want to see - some offices are asking for a regular transfer into a Spanish bank of about 630€ per month per person, some a bank balance of 5000€ - 6000€ - & some for both!
