Hi we are Mike and Dee and hoping to be moving to Spain once Mike retires next February, I'm already retired
I'm sure we'll have loads of questions to ask you all in the near future.
One question to start with and this will enable us to decide what kind of accommodation we are looking at.
Are you allowed pets in the Golf resorts and like? We would be looking at a ground floor apartment as we have a cat, he's getting on a bit and we couldn't leave him behind.
If not then it's accommodation off a resort.
Thanks
Dee

Hi Dizzydee and welcome to the forum.
Am I correct in assuming your looking to rent a place?
Rules on pets in my experience are much more relaxed in Spain than in the UK.
It would seem the default setting is pets are allowed unless otherwise stated.
If you´re dealing directly with a landlord, the landlords requirements are usually no more complex that "pay your rent".
There are many empty properties so beggers can´t be choosers! Remember this when negotiating your rent!
Good luck, February will be here in no time!!!
Regards

Wellcome to the forum Dizzydee.
I don't think you will have a problem. If you had 5 big dogs that could be different. We had 4 cats in a rental property with no problems.
You will need to get him chipped and registered and vaccinated etc.. as that is now the law in Spain. The vet's fees are much cheaper than the UK and it is now possible to get decent insurance, even for an old cat.

Hi thanks for the replies.
We are looking at buying but didn't want to look at the Golf resorts if cats weren't allowed.
He's chipped already so that isn't a problem and I know he'll have to have his rabies jab and his passport before he goes to Spain.

Just a quick question, do you know exactly where you want to be? The reason I ask is because it´s usually very wise to take a rental in your proposed area of choice, if only for a few months, before jumping in lock stock and two smoking barrells and buying somewhere.

We have talked about renting to see if we like it, but we think we are looking around the Murcia, Alicante area. Would it be cheap to rent long term, well say up to two months?
The aforementioned cat would have to go in the cattery until will buy.
What's the best place for warmer winters?

Okay Dizzydee,
I´ll sign off wishing you the very best for the future and a wonderful new life in Spain.
I´m not in the area you´re looking at so I´ll leave it to other members that are.
Enjoy

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.
Please let me know if you need any further help.

Although a moderator hereabouts I'm nowhere near Spain . Accident really. I looked to France but took a wrong turning and ended up in New Zealand.

Anyway although I can be of as much help as a hedgehog in a balloon factory, welcome anyway.
I do know what you mean about your pusscats though. So much a part of our family aren't they
