Healthcare in Spain
Hi
My parents emigrated to Spain in the late 80's but came back to England in the 90's for various reasons. As a result I grew up in Spain and would now like to return and give my own children the opportunites and way of life that I was so lucky to have.
My dad has since passed away but my mum, now in her early 80s wants to come with us (not that I'd ever leave her!) but I need to do some research on healthcare. My main concern is her medication as she takes a lot! Would she have access to the same level of healthcare out there in terms of prescriptions etc? I think the sun and blue skies will be a health tonic alone.
Thanks

Re: Healthcare in Spain
We are all UK nationals but my children are 18,16 and 13 so I imagine the rules will be different for the 16 and 13 year olds as they will continue in education. I have work lined up and waiting for me but will ensure all the visas are in place as required.
So private healthcare will be the way to go? Is it no longer possible to become nationals and use the spanish healthcare system?
I did not realise about the driving test. I've been driving over there on and off for 20 years on my UK licence.

The income requirements for the first person is €27,792.96 per annum plus €6,948.24 for each additional person within the family.
If you have had an offer of work then the prospective employer will need to sponsor you with a work visa. Your prospective employer will need to prove that they have offered the position to anyone within the EU first and cannot find a suitable candidate within the whole of the EU.
You will all need to have full private healthcare paid for a full year for each member of the family. With private healthcare you will be paying full price for all your medication.
If you are successful with your visas and gain residency in Spain you mother could apply for healthcare under the S1 healthcare scheme which is paid for by the UK government and then there is a possibility that she will get free meds or at a vastly reduced cost.
I can't help you with any school questions.

If you have a job offer (and not self employed) then your employer should be arranging the visa's.
See here for the visa requirements.
Visas (FAQ)
If NLV you will not be allowed to work even remotely.
So if self employed you have to provide a business plan and that you have the required level of finance.
Remote working is a can of worms as there is no specific visa for this yet.
Driving licences, as a tourist you can drive on a Uk licence but once resident (you will have 30 days from the date of your arrival to get residency sorted) you can then only drive for 6 months until you must either exchange (if they ever agree) or to take a test...

Acting as a devils advocate Have you really thought this through and gone through the finances? You will need visas-all of you which cost You will need private healthcare-all of you-have you researched the cost of policies especially for your mother. Will you be buying a house or renting? Will your job pay you enough to afford all of this on top of the every day living expenses?
Finally what do your teenage children think of this plan especially from the socialising point of view. Can they speak Spanish well enough to go through the education system? What educational or technical qualifications are they likely to get? If they go back to Uni in the UK then they will be regarded as Overseas Students and have to pay the full costs
I know this sounds a bit negative but these are things that you need to consider before moving as Brexit has completely changed the landscape for Brits in the EU

That is unfair comment as it is usually an incremental process uncovering the OP wants and what their overall circumstances are.
Each contribution along the way assists in uncovering how the OP can be best helped.
