Thanks

Depends on age and which cover options are chosen, but as a rough idea you should budget anything between 29 euros (20 year old, standard cover) and 250 euros (64 year old, premium cover) per month. An age limit (typically 64 or 69 years old) applies when first taking out a health policy, but once taken out the policy may be renewed each year without age limit. Hope this helps. Iain

We had private health care with Sanitas and it was relatively cheap. Dont go for quotes to UK companies, they are really over the top. Sanitas.es is a place to start as last I was on there (some time ago) you could get a quote indication on line. It is in English as well, if you choose. We were in our mid fifties when we took it out ... it was nowhere near €250 per person then

Agreed, Mitzy. We pay, for full premium cover, in our 70's, €75/month each.

The older you get the more expensive the premium.

Fred, 250€ relates to the broadest possible coverage. The policy would pay if, for example, you decided to obtain specialist treatment for a serious disease in New York or wherever else in the world. Does your policy for a premium of 75€ a month offer that coverage? Doubt it. The original post asked for a rough idea so I provided both ends of the premium spectrum. Hope that clarifies.

Why on earth would I want an annual policy that would cover me in New York?

I am more than happy with what I have and that covers me throughout the EU. If I want cover for holidays in the US I can buy that separately.

That's not the point I was making, Fred. I'm glad you are happy with what you have.

But the OP was just asking about private healthcare cover in Spain, just like they might get BUPA in the UK. They are not looking for worldwide heathcare.

The OP's profile states 'travel' as an interest, so perhaps he might.

Seguro de salud - Seguros - Seguro dental - Seguros médicos

I just put in my age (62) and my old code in Spain and came up with rates between €60.40 and €108.97 per month, depending on the level of cover. Only the lower one doesnt cover dentistry.

Thats cover for all of Europe, and also covers you therefore when you go back to the UK on holiday.

Sanitas is part of the BUPA group

Travel insurance is completely different, and and anywhere in the States has to be an additional cover on most travel insurances anyway. Covering the States on a Spanish privare health care policy as mentioned would be a bit of a nightmare

Hi everybody,
been looking at the info on the forum for a year or two now, thought it was about time I registered. Planning to sell the house in Southsea in 2017 and move to the Costa Blanca South, my dad and a few family members live in Orihuela and Torrevieja.
I have been looking into healthcare for me and my wife not long ago. Im 47 and have a Royal Navy pension I recieve now, (About 700 euros a month). I would be in a position to buy a property outright for about £90k and come with about £45k in the bank.
However, I am a very experienced and qualified chef so would be looking to work, with a contract.
Which I understand would give myself and my family state healthcare, without monthly cost.
Next point, I am giving myself a year to find a decent job with a contract. So....being without a contract, I will need healthcare which I have been told can be purchased for 60 euros per person, per month from the Spanish NHS. Giving you full access to the spanish health service as if you were a Spaniard. Is this the case?

Thank you

Yes BUT only after you have completed a year on private health insurance

Don't know your health condition but some of the private policies for your age would be around the same price as the Spanish health service
