Re: Health care
I would say if you are not working no, if you are working yes.
This might help
https://www.gov.uk/healthcare-in-spa....r24kyZRs.dpuf
But you probably need to clarify with INSS

if you aren't working you don't need to pay SS contributions, but if you are, then of course you do

Re: Health care
Looking at 'Healthcare in Spain' it deals with EHIC and yes not relevant here. However it says the card is for 'holiday use only.' That is not true it is also used as part of say a long existing condition needing dialysis or special medication for perhaps Rheumatoid Arthritis. We used it in 2013 for exactly that purpose but it took side time for Valencia to agree.
We are now returning and becoming resident so with S1's but with INSS and Residence it looks like a huge amount of Admin in Denia. Not looking forward to that. Apparently you have to go firstly for an appointment then to return later.

Re: Health care
Yes EWIC is not restricted to simple emergency scenarios whilst on holiday.
We bottomed that out when in Javea in 2013 and whilst the Salud in Javea (old town) said 'computer says no' and Marina Salud/Valencia Health Authority said no we finally got the message through.
It took the great guy at the Consulate Martyn to sort it out.
One thing if you have pre-existing conditions then it is wise to put the Health organisations on notice before you leave for Spain. Par exemple dialysis and the like.
We did not and thus part of the problem. Other problem was the cost of my wife's medication.
Hope that helps

You will need your S1 - Residencia & Padron and your passport and a lot of patience.
Good luck.

Re: Health care
Thanks for the information. Very grateful. We almost took a villa in your village last September but someone got in before us. I love your village apart from that is a steep hill near to the Town Hall?
take care and thanks once more
