HDD recording TV from Astra satellite
Hello to anybody with the necessary knowledge of our TV setup here in the Costa Blanca.
Like many others in this area, we receive our TV via a satellite tuner (Conax C3 - "Illusion") and used to record programmes on a Panasonic DVD/HDD recorder - until a massive lightning strike zapped the Panasonic.
Looking to replace that function, I'd need to buy a HDD recorder with SCART in/out (that being the only output for recording purposes) - or would one of these do away with the old Conax and accomplish the recording capability much more elegantly.
Humax HDR-1100S 500GB PVR Freesat with Freetime.
Any help and advice will be gratefully received.
Thanks in advance.

IF you want to record into a DVD, then you will need a DVD / HDD recorder similar to the one you already had.
If you just simply want to watch, record, playback UK TV from the satellite, and not archive onto DVD, then a Humax HDR-1100S 500GB PVR Freesat with Freetime is perfect. Especially with its 8 day programme guide, and automati channel updates...so even less hassle than the "illusion" boxes.
But for the full recording functionality (ie watch one channel and record another at the same time), two cable feeds from your dish to the Humax will be required.

That's extremely helpful, thank you.
I cannot see any easy way to run a second feed from the dish so I guess I'll have to live without that dual channel facility.
I'm sure there are other similar more expensive/cheaper units but I just stumbled on that particular Humax.
Would you recommend anything different - bearing in mind DVD record/playback is not required - or is this Humax the best unit at that price/spec ?

You can go for the HB1100S, which will also record, but you need to supply and connect an external powered HDD.
Or an "off the shelf" generic free to air receiver, GI, Ferguson Ariva, etc, which allows recording onto USB sticks...but does not have the 7 day programme guide (just now and next)

Again, many thanks for the advice.
