Default Having a spot of bother

Hi all, I know it is early and so we are not going to mention the C word.

We are looking for a restaurant for lunch or dinner on 25 December in Benidorm. The emphasis must be on quality of food, not quantity. Atmosphere would be good and perhaps some entertainment.

We would prefer the old town or its immediate vicinity.

Does anyone have some personal recommendations please as we do not know Benidorm very well, but are meeting another couple of people who are staying over during this period.

We all have had bad experiences of so called 'Gala' dinners in hotels, high prices and rubbish food so are looking for a restaurant with a little more intimacy and personal service.

Thank You

S & J

Thank you for your input MFH but we have tried all the usual Trip Advisors etc.

We were looking for a more personal recommendation for restaurants, ie are they actually open on December 25, is the food served more than just 'ding' food or 'pub grub', is there any atmosphere etc.

A few years ago we stayed at the Benilux parkhotel over Christmas. It's a smaller hotel than most in Benedorm, and friendly. The Christmas Day meal was excellent, but not a traditional British one, though it was turkey.
The atmosphere was good, and there was evening entertainment , followed by dancing. Santa had a present for everyone!
Look it up online. It's on You tube too. It's near the old town.
Might be worth spending a weekend there to try it out first.

Sorry Fred, that was lost on us until we did a bit of googling. Is it that dire?

We are some of the very few people who watch almost zero TV, apart from a bit of Wimbledon and the world cup. We don't even watch the news.

I am really surprised that there have not been a lot of replies to this post as so many people visit Benidorm but maybe the majority eat at their hotel and therefore do not know the sort of restaurant that you are seeking.

Are you staying for a few days or only popping over for the festive meal?

Hi Rosemary, we are popping over to spend the day with my Sister and her friends who are staying over. Her hotel is asking 75€ per head for a gala lunch!!!
I don't mind paying if I know it is good, but so many gala dinners we have had have been dire.
We have seen a small restaurant in the old town called Vagabonds so we have a reccy sometime soon.

It's a fictious club/restaurant, doubt anything could be that dire.. well I've been to a few in Spain that would come very close..

What hotel is she going to be staying at as that may help you with information about their food.

My worst experience was in Portugal.

They set out the buffet and then covered everything in a thick layer of coriander including the sweets

I am one of the 1 in 6 who find coriander disgusting.

OK, by far the best restaurant we went to on our trips to Benidorm was right up at the top end of the North Beach, near the rock

Walk to the and of the promenade and then turn right heading towards the old town. I think it's two streets down on the left you will see a narrow street and on the left of the street is a pathway up to small restaurant called La Rana.

Heres the trip advisor link. Food is excellent
