Has anyone seen halogen ovens in Spain, if so can you remember where and how much? Also does anyone use them, are they as good as they say they are?

There are many other designs than JML, but they were among the earliest. They do work, and we bought one in Spain, can't just remember where, they re often in shops like Lidl or Aldi in the UK, so may well be in Spain.

Been using one now for about 18 months, electric bill has come down as we now only use the main oven for very large joints etc.
Here in the Torrevieja/Orihuela Costa area they are found at several markets and various Brit shops including Iceland. Prices vary from 39.99 at a local market stall to 79.99 Iceland but average 59.99. hth

I have one, But not the Halogen type, someone I know has the Halogen type and it's not as good as mine.

I think you will get one in Macro, there is one similar to mine near me in a second hand shop, but it's old and the same price as a new one, get a new one.

If you can't get the other type I'm sure Halogen won't be that bad, they have a fan in them and cook well.

What other type? I do not have a clue what you mean, can you give me more details, please?

Hi, well the Halogen is kind of a light for heat. The type I have has a metal spiral thingy similar to that on an old electric cooker, it's hard to see but look under the underside of the lid and you will see it.

Basically if it does not say halogen it should be fine.

I have ordered parts from Andrew James via Amazon and the service was excellent. Find the halogen ovens very good and great value when bought through amazon UK.

Thanks for the info. Graham ordered an Andrew James one with all of the extras from E-bay last night at a fraction of the cost. Buying from Amazon meant buying it from Andrew James themselves and the postage was 33 pounds. Any tips and advice would be very welcome.

Crikey...that postage charge makes it very expensive...I bought a new bowl from them only about 4 months ago and the postage was only around 5 squids...I just looked on their site again and as you quite rightly say 33 pounds delivery......the bowl is less than 15 pounds!

We were put off buying one initially because of the postage but have been unable to find one locally so started to look on the internet for the best deals.

Reading alsorts of information on loads of different sites has encouraged us to invest in one. Many say that the cook book that comes with it is less than useless, do you use a cook book or estimate the cooking times yourself? Have you experienced any real disasters that you can warn us against doing?

Couldn´t agree more Rosemary....the books that come with the ovens are a bit useless. A friend of mine bought a few from amazon and they were very good, paid around 15 pounds including delivery to Spain, each one around 20 euros here! I don´t have any myself, but find that you can either keep the cooking times similar to a conventional oven and reduce the temperature or just reduce the cooking times. It´s a bit trial and error but you can see what´s going on and check the food anyway. No disasters yet, but still have to cook Sunday lunch.....famous last words eh! Certainly a great device though, very convenient, instant, easy to clean and probably saves a bit on the electricity bill.
