Hairdressing jobs in Spain, Im relocating
Hi there,
I am writing this on behalf of my friend who wants to relocate to Spain
She is 45 years old ( looks Gorgeous !) and is a hairdresser and specialises as a colour stylist
Now her kids have grown up and parents died, she has no ties and wants to move to Spain
However she has not got a clue about jobs and places to live
Has any one got any tip or leads or indeed any jobs in Hairdressing
She is awesome and a great hairdresser but needs a helping hand to start her new life in Spain
Thanks

Most of the hairdressers on the coast (CDS) do not employ staff. They rent out chairs. Often seen ads in Sur in English.
I don't think being gorgeous figures if they employ you or not!

I think the only way is for her to rent a chair as Jackie says or invest in lots of flyers etc and become "mobile"??? The trouble with all of that is that she would need to be autonomo and pay 250€ a month into the spanish system. Hiardressing is a very competitive market in Spain and due to the downturn there arent as many people wanting their hair done as often.
Maybe a few trips over to do some research??????

I agree that most of the ads for hairdressers are looking for stylists to rent chairs. A lot of ads also require Spanish, as there won't be many salons catering solely for British clientele. My own hairdresser is Spanish by birth but was brought up and did her training in London, and is therefore bilingual. She hasn't had any problem finding work in salons around here (Velez-Malaga and now works in Torrox Costa) although she's had a couple of periods of unemployment as salons often don't stay the course and close down after a few years.

Our local British hairdresser has moved back to the UK for family reasons, she used to be really busy and now we don't have one, so a new one would be great!!

I also had a friend here who was a hairdresser, the first year she had loads of clients from meeting young mothers at the school but the second year not one of those clients were still here. The 3rd year she moved back to the UK.

There are two really chavvy British salons here in Benalmádena Pueblo
I have no idea if people use them, but they only advertise in English. I can't believe people would go to them, tacky doesnt even come close!

Theres a nice barbers in the Pueblo that my son used to use. I'm not sure if its still there, but the young man who ran it was lovely and theres a beauty salon thats very popular - not my "cup of tea"" but its popular with the locals - but its a rent a chair scenario I believe. Are those what you mean??

These 2 have really tacky English names. Something like Holywood haircuts and someone similarly bad

Hollywoodhair, Benalmadena??? Its very popular, its very professional and very good. Maybe you need to define "chavvy" ???? Live and let live! Theres a need for this sort of place obviously and both expats and locals use it. I personally dont, but many of my friends, who most certainly dont come across to me as "chavs" swear by it - British, Spanish, Columbian, Mexican, rich, poor educated, stylish.... !

True!! I guess its horses for courses. http://www.facebook.com/hollywoodhairbenalmadena I just dont think its appropriate to label a place as "chavvy" when in fact its a business thats doing well in difficult times and isnt just aimed at "chavs"!!

Hairdressers like with everything depends on recommendations and trying them out. My OH came back with what I called a German housewife's haircut in Barcelona, so she stuck with the El Corte Ingles hairdressers until a friend recommended a good one in Malaga

We've got loads of hairdressers in our area and my wife must have tried them all. She came back from one just the other day while I was quietly reading a book by the pool.
I got such a shock I nearly fell in it. We haven't spoken much since.
Apparently it was a Columbiana lady that did the damage.
