I think if it was for smallish amounts (under £4000 I think it is) I would be tempted to take out a county court summons, the service is free and any costs are charged to the defaulting party! Hit em twice, they can pay up before the court date or pay at court plus costs.

Either way you get your money and show them you won't be shoved about any longer
