Guardian expats guide to spain

http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2012...ts-guide-spain

Year-round sunshine and high temperatures, lifestyle choices ranging from the packed Costas to party destinations such as Barcelona and Ibiza, or sedate and relaxing retirement hotspots such as Menorca on the Balearics – why would you not move to Spain?

Well, the economy may be one reason not to go. But if you have a secure income and want to benefit from a country with widespread English, easy budget airline access to and from the UK's regional airports, plus houses for sale at 1990s prices, it appears compelling.
That article is going to get ripped to shreds here, isn't it? :)

Well it is sunny outside even though it's only 9degs and I'm sitting indoors with a fleece over my jumper.

There were more things wrong in that article than were correct

The Guardian are a sham. They like to think that they are worldly and sophisticated but they are about as wordly as a Greggs sausage roll.

Their recent series of articles on independence in Catalunya was equally cringe worthy. One article argued that Catalans are different to Spaniards because they "like to show displays of physical contact and have their own cuisine"

 Wow, some amazing advice here but you'd have thought a Guardian reader could read the word "taxi"!

How do you spot a cab? They're often black with yellow doors.

• Spain is five times bigger than the UK, with only two-thirds of its population.
Wrong!!!! Spain 504,782 km2, UK 241,590 km2.

The Grauniad is notorious for printing inaccuracies and this article is certainly no exception - what sloppy journalism!

He says you need to apply for an NIE within 90 days - you need it a lot sooner than than, just to open a bank account for starters. Then refers to a Tarjeta de Residencia which doesn't even exist any more.

He says you present the S1 form to the local doctor's surgery or hospital - oh no you don't, you need to take it to the INSS office to register.

Now that brings back memories of sitting out in the sunshine in England with a reasonable coffee, their sausage rolls aren't small but are reasonably priced

Can see why they don't have the Guardian for customers to read like my local bar has Ideal.

Wherever it was will be where this guy copied and pasted it from. The whole article has the unmistakeable stamp of a motley collection of information gleaned from the internet without bothering to check whether it was up to date, or realising that much of it related only to one autonomous region or other.

The descriptions of Spain sound like something lifted from a cheesy package holiday brochure.
