We will just apply as near the 30 days as we can and see what happens. I am expecting getting appointments to be difficult as there will be loads applying for renewal so this will add even more. Never mind just try best one can.
I've heard that renewals for WA TIEs issued for new residents after July 2020 will not be exchanged until after they expire. Apparently the police computor can't issue permanent TIEs until after 5 years since the start of residency. Those with the green residency cards/paper prior to june 2020 should be able to get their TIEs a month before they expire.

yes I have read that but i have also read that it depends on the area you are in. I have also read that although you can renew 90 days after renewal they can still add a penalty for late renewal which sounds nonsense to me. The official information from spanish government is it can be renewed 30 days before expiry and up to 90 days after. To be fair if one applies 30 days before expiry by the time the new one is issued it will have passed the expiry date . One can only follow their official guidance hope for the best and see what happens.
This is a screen shot from Spanish government site which clearly says apply 30 days before or up to 90 days after expiry of current card

I notice that a certain site is critizing the UK Embassy over this .As people have pointed out though - if people had simply accepted the official advice ( not a private website) from the Embassy over the last 5 years to change their green cards it might have helped reduce the problem faced by the lack of appointments, as everyone now realizes that idly talking about their legal rights does nothing to alleviate the stress of spending months trying to find appointments in offices all over Spain.

I totally agree . It was simple common sense to change the green card for the TIE. Simple enough procedure and no reason not to. I had the green card i waited 7 or 8 months to change it for the TIE , i waited because there was plenty of people that needed to get TIE before Brexit date so i didnt wish to be one clogging the system. Once it had calmed down it made sense to change.

What annoys me it certain forums simply wanted a fight to try and prove how clever they are at legalise stuff and ( like healthcare and residency) put their members in a fighting mode suggesting that anyone asking you to change cards was bullying you and ignorant of the law. Consequently lots of folk now suddenly find themselves possibly facing issues when travelling as the old green card won't be recognised. The Embassy had warned about this but again people have been brainwashed to believe that the Embassy are incompetent and ignorant of the laws. A sad state of affairs as most people innocently don't know who to believe. This is what happens in the age of social media.

Yes there was a lot of misinformation back in 2020 with the final Brexit date looming. I had come to live on Spain earlier than my wife because of Brexit approaching I was retired so moved over and got residency with the green card, to ensure one of us was fully resident with Brexit being up in the air. My wife moved to Spain July 2020 by which time the TIE had just come in for British. I had got my green card using a gestor and about a month before my wife moved here I had checked that the gestor could do the residency and what she needed. Then literally from nowhere it all changed so I contacted the gestor again to be told they couldn't now do it for her as the full process wasn't known or clear to them? I tried a few others only to be told the same. We didn't want to wait with final Brexit date approaching and having just got out of lockdown could there be more of that preventing us getting her TIE registered in time. So I went online got as much info as I could, within days of my wife arriving we did the immigration office part done in Málaga got the paper from them that said she could put the TIE application in which we did again in Málaga and 6 weeks later we collected her TIE card. Around about the September the gestors I had tried for help contacted me saying they could now help ? Mmmm already done it but they then wanted the business to change my green card to TIE. I said having had to learn the process because you couldn't help I will do that myself but not yet in a few months to allow people that need the appointments as they have no residency to get theirs. I changed mine the following February after the initial rush had gone. We are now going to start the process to renew my wife's card.
