Default Google Earth

Has anyone checked this out lately? Parts have been updated. Our area (Chiclana) has been updated to around easter time. Very interesting!

I can pick out my house in Velez-Malaga on Google Earth - not very clearly because of the pixellation when you zoom in so close, but it's fascinating. But also a bit scary - if we ordinary mortals can see so much, what can the intelligence/security services of various countries see?

No, is it good? I've never been keen on stuff like that as I always thought it was far-fetched, but after seeing Google Earth, maybe not!

I tried to see my old house in the UK, but the definition was crap, wasn't using the premium part of the site, too mean to spend that sort of money, but it didn't seem as good as I ahd expected from comments I have seen.

I think they are concentrating on the USA, then us after.
Although where I live is not too bad, I can see my car etc, but not the dollybird who lives nearby

Paying for an upgrade apparently doesn't give clearer photographs just more options and facilities.

The photographs are continually updated with the more recent ones being of much higher definition.

Regarding Spooks, I don't know about the storylines but the technology they use is certainly credible.

Does one need to have ADSL to download Google earth or not? I have checked the web site but wasnt too sure, if I could download without it taking for ever. Any advice?

I love Spooks, shame about Ruth's departure tho, she was a key character and complimented the "team".

13.7 mb to download, so ordinary dial up would be very slow.
I've just had a look at my area here, and I can see my car in my drive, much beter clarity than the UK maps for where I lived, perhaps it would be better in the Uk in a different area, much more detail on the maps here. can send them to friends as e mails so they can see just where we live.

Yeah Spain is better than where I lived in the UK, I think big cities are clearer also.

Smile Re: Google Earth

Hi La Joconde,

It depends not only on the speed of your download but also the speed of your graphics card inside the PC. I have 2MB adsl so downloading the software was not a problem but my PC then told me it could not run it without an upgrade to my graphics card. Fortunately my son has the biggest, meanest, fastest beast in the west so we put it on there and I creep into his room when he is out to get my shot of google earth.

However all is not lost if you can't get the full job log on to google and enter maps this will give you a site something like maps.google.co.uk and you get 2/3 rds of the functions of the google earth, if you combine the map and photo at top right you get something very like the real thing without the zoom pan and tilt functions.

Regards,

John.

Our house is shown clearly, but our pool still isn't there which was completed last Easter. Shows those of our neighbour's though.

Just checked and our pool is now on, so it must have been up-dated again in the last few weeks...

Thanks for the info John, I will check out the map&photos as you suggest.. sounds like a good alternative for me, shall give it a go.

A silly question I expect, but how do I find out what graphics facility I have on my PC???

Thanks again for the help. Cheers!
