Default Gibraltar fact and fiction?

Below is an interview between a German newspaper and Gib's Chief Minister.

It gives a little insight into facts about Gibraltar

http://www.chronicle.gi/headlines_details.php?id=29313

Gibraltar has a gross domestic product the equivalent of 1.5 billion euros. That’s not bad for two square kilometres around a rock. Was makes you so wealthy?

Is it true that there are more companies registered in Gibraltar than there are inhabitants? Are many of them just mailboxes?

Etc.etc.

BAT7311 is an unknown quantity at this point

e-petition
Give Gibraltar back to España, but demand the UK keeps a military presence on the Island as part of the agreement!

Responsible department: Foreign and Commonwealth Office

I believe the UK has no right to Gibraltar, however I concede the Island is a strategic point in terms of the UK military and an entry point to the Mediterranean Sea. I therefore wish it becomes a territory of spain, but we remain a military presence on the island much like Cyprus. I see this as being an excellent opportunity to improve Spanish - English relations!

yes..perhaps we can all meet up on this island to discuss it with BAT7311.

no doubt we will see you next Tuesday

(some homework before you leave Tenerife, look up the word isthmus or istmo if you prefer it in Spanish).

If I were Spanish I'd be more worried about losing the mainland to Brussels/Berlin than trying to buy back a rock which Spain cannot afford and whose inhabitants are quite clear about their desire not to have anything to do with their less competent neighbours

Now, now Mr Ellis Those words were a quote from the petition. I suspect Mr BAT knows well the difference between an Island and an Isthmus which is why he highlighted the word island...

The least impressive version of an apology for a petition I've seen in many a long day.

Apart from not knowing his island from his isthmus, the true origin of this unremarkable document seems a little suspect, judging by the actual wording and possibly the "we" could have been more honestly worded as "nosostros".

I'm afraid Mr Batt is batting on a very sticky wicket here and no doubt our Fred will be along shortly to chuck him a googly or two.

via the waters of the Strait of Gibraltar

That's almost an admission that Gibraltar has waters.

The Spanish have renamed the Bay of Gibraltar to La Bahía de Algeciras ( Despite the hinterland still being called Campo de Gibraltar) so maybe soon we will have The Strait of Spain.
