Gibraltar ambulances will only be able to transfer routine patients for treatment to Spanish hospitals if they are staffed by GHA employees who live in Spain or by EU nationals, the Government confirmed on Friday, adding it was ‘extremely concerned’ over this new Brexit development.

Royal Gibraltar Regiment takes up sentry duties at Buckingham Palace

The Royal Gibraltar Regiment has taken up sentry duties at Buckingham Palace, St James' Palace and the Tower of London on Monday. It is only the third time in its history that the Regiment has been given the honour, and forms part of a month of public duties in the capital over the next month.

A warrant penned in the lead-up to the Anglo-Spanish war in the late 1720s, during which Spain laid siege on Gibraltar, will go up for auction on Thursday 31/3/2022 in London.

The single-sheet manuscript is from James Berkely, the third Earl of Berkely and First Lord of the Admiralty, to Vice Admiral Sir Charles Wager, who was in command of the English naval fleet operating off the coast of Spain.

In the orders, Sir Charles is tasked with intercepting any Spanish vessels in response to Spain’s hostile actions against Gibraltar.

He was ordered to “…to take, sink, burn or otherwise destroy...” any Spanish vessels sighted by his ships.

After nearly three centuries, the letter is being sold by Forum Auctions on behalf of a private UK-based collector.

This so called 4 years started in January 2022 with the change in Spanish legislation that is still on the negotiating table delayed by amongst otherthings covid in Spain.

Government Remains “Strongly Optimistic” That UK/EU Treaty Will Be Reached

Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar can confirm that, although no agreement has yet been reached, negotiations for a UK/EU Treaty are continuing positively and with all parties strongly optimistic that agreement can be reached in a manner that will be acceptable and favourable to all.

Delays in the negotiations have inevitably arisen from the travel restrictions imposed in the last month’s of last year as a result of the COVID Omicron variant and now the fact that the unprovoked Russian invasions of Ukraine has taken considerable ministerial and official bandwidth in London, Madrid and Brussels.

All the parties continue to be committed and working in good faith towards achieving an early resolution of all issues, which is eagerly anticipated by citizens in Gibraltar and the Campo de Gibraltar, as well as more widely.

The Chief Minister of Gibraltar, the Hon Fabian Picardo QC MP, said: “I want to extend a thank you from my Government and from the People of Gibraltar to all the officials in the respective negotiating teams in this negotiation for their efforts in this negotiation to date, despite the many logistical challenges it has represented. At a time when travel was uncomfortable and now when there are many other demands on their time, this issue continues to be given priority and we continue advancing positively and proactively seeking solutions to complex issues. I am strongly optimistic that we have found a route to a treaty to be concluded as soon as agreement is possible.”

Gibraltar provides employment for some 15,000 persons who live in Spain and work in Gibraltar, including over 9000 Spanish citizens

Gibraltar is the largest export market for the province of Cadiz

Gibraltar is the second largest employer for the entire region of Andalucia, after its regional Government

Gibraltar makes a positive economic impact on Spain and a positive contribution to its economy.

Yet the Spanish government along with expat Brits never stops trying to put Gibraltar down.

You mean Gibraltar isn't part of Andalucia? Politically and diplomatically, no, but geographically they are both located in the same area of the peninsular, and Gibraltar's only land border is with Autonomous Community of Andalucia, which is part of Spain.

I was thinking more of the notion of Gibraltar being "an employer", against which only the number of employees in Andalucia's regional government are compared.

The Spanish Foreign Ministry has made a diplomatic protest to the United States after an American Nuclear submarine has stopped at Gibraltar.
Press reports claim the Spanish Government is questioning the choice of the Naval Base as opposed to Rota which it says is nearby and offers similar facilities.

Spain has also used the opportunity of the visit to call for maximum security measures to be put in place with guarantees for the safety of people and the environment

It’s the first time in over 20 years that the Naval Base has hosted two nuclear submarines of different nationalities.
