Getting married in Spain
Hi
Having looked into going down the civil ceremony route and having our wedding at a private chapel we have abandoned this and plan to marry at a church. My fiance is Spanish and we have set a date for April 09.
A company we have found charges 690 euro + VAT for the below, is this money well spent or something we can do ourselves? They find a church with a priest (for 450-600 euro) who performs the ceremony in English and Spanish too.
- Lawyer Fee: legalities, civil registry
and international marriage certification.
We send the documentation to your
country
- Wedding Coordinator:
- Wedding file coordinator in Barcelona,
- reservation of the wedding day,
- coordinator of the ceremony
- 2nd meeting with the priest, rehearsal at
the church with the priest the day before
of the wedding,
- assistant during the ceremony,
- coordinator of the music with the organist
………………………………………… ………
Any advice would be much appreciated as well as any recommended reception venues!
Cheers

Re: Getting married in Spain
We had all our paperwork done through the British Consulate at Alicante. As we had both been married before we had 6 documents to have legalised, they had to be sent to the Foreign Office to have this done, then translated into Spanish and the translations authenticated. Plus the bans and certain letters with information about our previous address that our local Town Hall requires. The Consulate charge about €75 per item.
Sorry can't help with the charges for the Church etc as we are having a civil ceremony.
Best wishes for the future.

Re: Getting married in Spain
One of the things you will need to organise is a of copy of your baptism cetificate, with the oficial seal from your local bishop. It will then have to be translated. The head priest at the church where we were married was upset because it wasn't translated into Latin! You also have to do a course with the priest, answering lots of question on your compatibility, not forgetting the little chat with the priest before you marry.
I think you can go into any church and check availability, a lot of churches are booked up to a year in advance. It is a red tape nightmare, so if you can get someone to organise everything for it will save a lot of stress.

Thanks for your advice. We are going to let the planners do it for us - less stress! Now on the lookout for a reception venue

Re: Getting married in Spain
I second the Gib idea. If one family is British and the other Spanish even better. Everyone will be on neutral ground and be able to speak in their own language. Also, apart from the red tape, weddings in Spain are well overpriced and have little individuality.
