Re: Georgeous Galicia !

The lamp post picture is brilliant. How do they get away with building a property around a lamp post?

We would love to know that too.
In Chantada, the local town to us they have done something similar. Maybe it takes years to get permission to move a lamp post so why wait just build around it then fill in the hole once the concello has moved it.

The above petrol station is situated alongside a famous Monastery on the Camino de Santiago and a main road.

The above is a electric meter and cables hanging of a wall. Handy to hang the washing out on!

The above photos from our local paper 'La Voz de Galicia'. They asked for photos of the worse places in Galicia. They were inundated but these are some of our favourites.
But as sporny says in reality this is a very green (and wet) part of Spain.

great pics !

i am amazed, though, that while a fuel station is plonked outside a monestry and buildings are assembled around lamp posts, entire houses and, even, blocks of flats, which foreign investors have ploughed their life savings into,
can be razed to the ground because they are built 1 metre too wide or have a window in the wrong place !

weird !

Its acrylics afaik, and no she hasn't.
She got a degree in fine art and then discovered it was worth diddly squat. She wants to become an art therepist, but she's not even allowed to apply for the course until she has done a year working in care!

She will love doing art therapy and gain so much from the clients that she will help. I have always felt that the therapist gains as much from the provision of therapy as the client does, so a win win situation really. The working in care is a very important part too so tell her not to be disheartened by this.

Ahh yes, I'm just worried that she will spend as much time as a doctor or a lawyer in University and then find the jobs just aren't there

That is always the problem especially in the therapy field. The government has made so many changes to how the 'helping' professions are funded that you can never say for sure what will be available. Good luck to her anyway.
