Got less than 1 euro to 1 pound today with Currencies Direct. Has anyone had a bank transfer in the last few days with a better rate as am thinking of changing.

As to the pound I'm paid in Euros and going home means going to Canada so that part of it doens't bother me.
They are selling Tim Hortons here in Ireland now.

just dealt with rationalfx and got 1.10 on the nose for largish sum i sent back to spain...seems like you got ripped off, been looking at the rates all day and the lowest it got to was1.089 interbank rate...basically means that for every quid you sent, currencies direct earnt almost 9 cents... they have a show they are sponsoring this weekend so maybe that has affected their rates...

I find that although my pension day is the 18th of the month the exchange is done 1 or 2 days before the due date. I uncovered this because although the rate had always seemrd pretty good one month it was 1 cent above the exchange rate on the day and I phoned to ask if they could do that every month. They then explained their system. So your bad rate may have been last Friday when the rate was not as good as today.

If the tories get in, they will screw up even worse. None of them has any real hope of controlling what's going on.

The other day I checked my last regular transfer which was 29/12 I only got0.96. I have since put in motion a change as when I asked another co they said they had not paid less than 1 to 1. Made sense to me as that is at least 40 euro a month if not a bit more.

If you use one of the big specialist currency brokers (HiFx, Voltrex, et al) you can book a regular monthly payment and you should be only a few pips short of the interbank rate.
Failing that, open a Nationwide flex account for your UK currency and when you draw the cash out in Euros you will get the visa wholesale exchange rate and no comission.
Today for example that would be 1.10 €/GBP. (Rates here http://corporate.visa.com/pd/consume...r_ex_rates.jsp)

Don't throw your money to the sharks!

But we go back to the old thing that now we live in Spain we cannot open up a Nationwide flex account, so are buggered.

i'd hardly say its gone "vertical", yes it has moved, but only by about .5 cent...but hey, still better than going down that much, can only hope that next weeks eurozone rate cuts strengthen the pound even more!
