Default Galicia Dreaming

Hello Galician expats, my husband and I and our two children (2years old and 6 day old) are planning our dream move to Galicia and having read some great posts would love to know a bit more about your experiences, firstly....of getting children started in school. What is the system like? Playgroup first then school? Depends on location? We are looking to buy in or close to a village with a school so they can grow up with friends nearby.

Secondly we hope to grow Willow for coppice and to offset our carbon footprint. I understand Vigo had a willow and basket weaving industry and it is indigenous to the region but no longer widespread. We'd love to know if anyone is nurturing a woodland or coppice to help in our research for best location to settle our very young family and watch it grow! Are there rules about planting/cutting down trees?

We are very interested in green energy and would love to hear about anyone managing to live off grid.

Thanks and PS let's avoid discussion about the weather if possible. We know what it's like and can't wait. It's the climate for us!

Hi! My husband is a hydrogeologist and we have a few options but if he works from home I'm concerned about what I'm hearing about internet speed. I understand that in order to buy a property we will need to prove income is that right? So we'll not be Moving til we can ensure we can survive! The plan is to only need to cover living costs as we hope to be able own outright.

While we talk budget should we be expecting to need to rent for up to a year while the slow cogs of beaurocracy turn?

I would be asking questions about legal residence after Brexit. That is all up in the air at the moment. Not a good time to make plans.

Is this the Galacia in Spain? .... If so, this thread should be moved to the Spain forum.

One option is we have NZ citizenship and I assume they won't change current rules for kiwis in Spain. But regardless I'm interested in researching solutions not worrying about things I'm helpless to stop. If patience is what is required then we'll be patient but let's try and stay positive. I disagree, today is always the best day to make plans. We've moved around enough to know you have very little control over any aspects of relocation. Spain isnt closing its borders. We'll find a way. Thanks for your concern.

I suspect you need to contact the Spanish Embassy in NZ (which I think is in Wellington) to see whether you need a visado de trabajo y residencia which I think will need to be applied for by a potential employer. I wouldn't worry about all the other issues until you have established this.

You will need to prove you have enough regular income so not to be a burden on the state. You will also need to prove you have healthcare to cover everyone.

If you go self employed you will have to pay the authorities around €250 per month but that will cover your healthcare.
