I heard this story on the news, it seems impossible that a ship that big could be battered like that.
I know the sea is mighty, but it seems they came out of the blue, so to speak.......poor passengers.

A cruise forum is saying that the ship is old and has a bad design, ie. the deck and the windows are too low in the water. Interesting that the group who own the ship also own the hotel in Greece where the two british kids dies through carbon monoxide poisoning. I have been on a cruise ship in a hurricane and most ships can cope with waves at that height.

I can remember being in Minorca a few years back and a bloody great wave hitting us as we sat at a bar in the marina.

I noticed the waves were unusually high on our beach (south Costa Blanca) yesterday given the wind was not that high.

Its an Island off the coast of Spain to the right of Majorca who's name comes from the Latin Insula Minor that became Minorica and eventually Minorca before the Spanish decided to bugger up the name and make it Menorca....

Because there's an element of chaos in there, I'm not surprised there are freak waves. Isn't there a region below south Africa that regularly throws up monster waves?
