Hi Jules

I fully appreciate your situation as I was excited when we first got our property and wanted it to be a home straight away. My advice is don't panic. Get your main goods, white goods, beds, sofa etc and then enjoy the time looking at what you like. We measured all of our rooms prior and then ordered bedroom furniture and sofa so they were delivered when we collected the keys. It is important to know sizes otherwise the furniture can be too big.

Our first visit was spent cleaning and putting everything together, it was hard work but well worth it as every visit since has been relaxing and enjoyable with only buying nik-naks.

We bought our bed throws, cushions and pictures from little shops in Ayamonte and lamps, nik-naks and more pictures from Hyper Lamparas (spelt wrong) on the Lepe road next to The Big House.

Look around, enjoy it as when it is all complete you will be happier as they will be your things reflecting your taste.

Welcome to Ayamonte

I understand your point Julies, but Im with Lush on this ...

We had terrible experiences before we completed. Everything went wrong - having bought properties in several countries, this was the worst experience, everything went wrong and the lawyer was the worst of all - of all experiences we have had anywhere!

We went to Spain to finally get the keys, and were unhappy and felt that we had made a huge mistake.. we planned to stay there the minimum of time and get out!

BUT the moment we had the keys and were in control - everything changed. We got there Monday late afternoon. It was the Easter week as well, meaning that everything was closed from Thursday/Friday - but things just fell into place. We decided to go to the local shop for the white goods/TV...rather than say Carrefour, it may have cost a few euros more - but the service was excellent. We went to the shop at 18:30 and the apologised that they couldnt deliver that night!! By 10am the next day all was delivered, connected set up etc etc. The next day we had beds all delivered, furniture etc etc... we also had bought stuff in the sales whilst waiting for completion that we bought down in the car.... so had a lot of stuff. The first night was on a blow up bed (with electric pump - took 5 mins) cheaper than a hotel, champagne cooling in the sink with ice from the petrol station - and plastic cups.

By Wednesday we had all the basics done - comfortable and had a lot of stuff from beds to soup ladles!. So we enjoyed all the Easter celebrations knowing that we were set up and comfortable. We were delighted and surprised about how easily everything went - far better than doing the same in e.g the UK. We are still buying nik-naks and for example will be there soon with some curtains we bought in Italy.

We always remember how easy it was when we had the keys, and from that moment we have really enjoyed Ayamonte and CE.... no regrets at all.

So Julie dont give up on 'the DIY' approach, as Lush says it can be fun!

And yes welcome to Ayamonte - you are going to have a blast!!

We bought our white goods from Idea in Ayamonte and went to Carrefour a few days later and were pleased to see that the same goods were actually slightly more expensive at Carrefour! As Jon says the service and delivery times were fantastic
