According to the consumer association many freezer and refrigiation units aren't cold enough in Spain. I have noticed with frozen veg., peas etc. that they seem to have been thawed and refrozen as there are hard clumps.

More worrying was that the report mentions investigators found some chilled food, advised temperature no higher than 5deg C, at 21
No wonder there are inexplicable tummy 'incidents' sometimes......

I have had a few pproblems with frozen shellfish. As soon as I defrost them they always stink to high heaven. Anyone else noticed this?

(in fact I've shifted to frozen fish from fresh because of problems with the supposedly 'fresh' supermarket type!)

I've noticed on several occasions that the control knob has been removed from the fridge or fridge/freezer in rented apartments; I suppose to cut down on the power bill. This is where your Swiss Army Knife helps out, turn off fridge, turn up control, turn fridge back on
To be honest I gave up buying fresh milk (when available) in Spain years ago, just goes off before you can drink it so now suffer the awful long life white fluid they call milk

I know I should have done, in fact I bought them twice from más y más and both times I threw them away.

It's always stored in the fridges in the stores and has always lasted very well at home.

Fresh milk was also difficult to find (and ridiculously expensive) when we lived in Germany.
We have become accustomed to the horrible milk here, but about 2 months ago we were visiting friends in Ohio (America) and we noticed that the milk there is remarkably good tasting. They haven't ever heard of this UHT milk. All of their milk is fresh (and served cold). Their butter is about the creamiest I've ever tasted. Sorry, yes even better than the butter at home.
And I suppose I needn't say anything about the American meats. Just "wow". We seem to be missing a lot of good food over here.
But then again, Spain isn't exactly known for its dairy or culinary finesse, and we've been here a long time, so perhaps it was just the shock of being in civilisation after such a long time.

I have noticed a lot of cheap milk around in different supermarkets just in the last few weeks ie/ 49c a ltr (UHT Stuff)
I guess you could easy have a healthy diet if you limit what you eat to a few things.
I have seen frozen food that looks like it has been defrosted too, never been ill though, touch wood

I just do not undersatnd UHT milk when you can buy fresh and its freezable.
Perhaps it's a question of economics?

It is done with fruit juice as well, and gives the milk and juice up to nine months shelf life.
Why bother to freeze milk ? Times have changed since the horse and cart milk delivery for the good.
