Your Help Is Needed To Find A Good Man A job

Hi all,
I am new to the forum and have just come back from sunny Spain after spending a wonderful but worrying long weekend with my Sister and Brother-in-law, who having moved to southern Spain (San Pedro area) around 6 years ago are now struggling with the current economic downturn.

Dave (Brother-in-law) is a smashing lad and a young 53 year old and although a chippy by trade with many years in timber preservation and damp proofing with Protim and the likes he has spent most of his time in Spain on property sales, which as you will all know has been a financial disaster, and although he does not know I am doing this he needs a bit of an urgent hand.

If there is there anyone out there who can offer a good and honest ex Edinburgh man a fair days pay for a fair days work I would be unbelievably grateful as it is wrong to think that they are trying so hard but may have to return to the UK just because they are quiet people and haven't networked enough.

Dave is also a fantastic Guitarist and can play and teach any kind of guitar music and would even be willing to do this to stay afloat.

Any help, direction or assistance would be very much appreciated and who knows, maybe I can return the compliment as I am MD of a building services maintenance company in central London and am always looking for good and highly recommended mechanical and electrical engineers.

Thanks and all the best,
Callum

The planes are full of good honest tradesman all heading back to the UK and all parts of Europe and as Spain's rate of inflation stands at 4.6 this morning, which is worse that the UK, An upturn in not likely for the next 3-5 years. So buckle up and get ready for a bumpy ride. I wish your brother in law all the best. The honest and willing always pull through.

Re: Finding a job

Thanks for the reply but there must be someone out there looking for a good man who would fit into any business.

I am prepared to offer a "Finders Fee Reward" for successful placement payable after 4 weeks work have been completed if it would raise any interest?

Come on my fellow countrymen give a fighting man a chance!!!!

Its not that easy,Reward or no reward, even if he`s 100% fluent in Spanish its very difficult to get work and the social security is pretty much non exsistant (I prefer this as it keeps scroungers out),My only suggestion would be to advertise in local press if he hasnt already.

We had a secretary at work - English chica............grew up here so fluent in Spanish, fluent in English obviously, also spoke Dutch & German. Before she came to work for us she had applied for about 10 -20 jobs a week in the first six months since they came here from Belgium (I think it was Belgium). She & her family eventually returned there because neither she nor her other half could get jobs paying enough to support them.

on the other hand I got the first job I applied for:D

I teach English to foreigners, Spanish to English people, English to English kids who are at spanish school & maths (from spanish, valenciano or english text books) to anyone who needs it!

I work freelance as well as at a language school. My skills are clearly in demand as another language school tried to head-hunt me!

It just goes to show that if your skill is in demand you can get work, but I guess that goes for anywhere, not just here in Spain!

I had planned to take a break for August, but it is shaping up to be possibly the busiest month this year, beause Javea is full of kids from all over Spain who have failed their English exams at school, and their parents are making them take extra lessons in the holidays so that they can pass the re-sits in September.

I even have a madrileño university student who is studying to be an English teacher, who keeps failing one particular section of the exam, and has to repeat the whole year!

I was just about to tell him about a company seeking English speaking, qualified carpenters. Glad I didn't now.
