Re: fiestas in april
The parameters given - ie during a small time window and in a specific small Almerian village - mean it is more of a hit and hope to be honest with you.
Try the website www.sorbas.es would be what I would do or contact any friends you may have there to find out.

" Hasta el 40 de Mayo no te pongas el sayo "
It is pure fantasy, because evidently, there are not May 40. This means that until the end of May it can continue making cold and it is necessary to continue with coat

Thx for that list of sayings for each month you sent me Relampago. Astonishing how many there are!

Re: fiestas in april
The meaning of 40th May is a way of saying that although it is June, and therefore expected to be summery, don't trust the first 10 days of June as there is always still a chance of rain - hence the prolongation of May. El sayo - a smock or tunic, but more commonly known as an overgarment to protect from rain, or a raincoat. So what we are saying is 'Until May 40th, don't take off teh raincoat' - if we used 'no te pngas' we are saying 'until May 40th don't put on your raincoat', which would not make sense

Re: fiestas in april
To be fair the list Relampago sent me did use the verb quitar.
Hasta el cuarenta de mayo no te quites el sayo, y si vuelve a llover, vuélvetelo a poner.
It's the type of typo I tend to make. My brain cells aren't what they were.

With the hurries, I have made a mistake. Evidently it is " hasta el 40 de Mayo no te quites el sayo "
